Hi all we due to the kind generosity of CPNGROATS (a member on another forum who was so impressed by my model ships he gifted this to me from his own stash)I have received this

today.
Thank you very, very much George, very kind indeed.
I hastily opened it tonight eader to start but my missus says NO!!! "you have enough models on the go, cluttering up my house. you finish some of them off and get them out the way". to be fair I do have 9 on the go and bits are all over the place, she's generally ok so I cant complain ( but I have found in the past a bit of sweet talking can bring her round ) so watch this space, in the very near future.

You lucky so and so! I remember my Dad building that when I was a kid. I've looked for one for years now.
Is this the release with the green hull?
By the way, my Dad also did the Cutty Sark, the Constitution and the Kearsarge. All from Revell in their 1/96 scale. He helped me do my first ship model, the CSS Alabama.
I can't wait to follow your build log

That is a great Friend you have there but be careful. The Kit is almost a straight reboxing of the Cutty Sark. Do not be put off though as it is a lovely Kit......Cheers mark

Ken, that is so cool you got this model! I got the kit when I was in my early teens. Here's a (relatively) current pictures:

I'm just curious, did this kit come with a separate sheet showing where each of the running rigging gets belayed to?

Ken,
This is a beautiful classic kit - I've seen the Cutty Sark built up. I don't know much about these ships; was there much difference between Cutty Sark and Thermopylae?
Anyway, looking forward to your build!

I have the Revell Cutty Sark so I will be watching this build with interest. I think that I have read that their Thermopylae and Cutty Sark are identical kits. Can anyone confirm that?

I want to say that Cutty Sark & Thermopylae were built almost as sister ships - but I think they were built by different companies at the tine. Since both are clipper ships, and nearly identical, I wouldn't be surprised if Revell just re-boxed Cutty Sark.
@kpnuts: When I built my kit, when it came to do the rigging, I used 2 different pin drills on the blocks - a smaller bit to open up the hole where the block is attached to something, and a slightly larger bit where the line goes through the shiv. Don't recall the sizes of the bits, though. Be careful opening the attachment hole; even with the drill bit, I still managed to break the ring on occasion.

Kool, I need to watch this. I managed to snag a 1/182 Constitution and a Kearsarge(?) at Goodwill a while back. Something on the order of $16 for the pair...

Very nice effect. Did you paint the deck with anything before you started the pastels?

Hi Mark,
The ship is looking great so far and the copper plate is very effective with the weathering.
cheers
