I used to follow builds and wonder why they bothered but once it gets into your mind that if you don't you're not quite giving it your best. See what happens when I finally make it off the hull and to the deck.

In the zone is right. I have just about finished the other side and it has been pretty quick, probably a couple of hours work. Now if I can only stop looking at photos progress will be much quicker. Yer right!

Finished seemingly innumerable portholes and the two detail belts under P and Q turrets. A quick spray and they have blended in well.
You can probably see better on this one
They're quite subtle which is nice and hopefully will emerge after a wash.
I made my attempt to achieve the 3D effect of the layered panels. They look effective in parts but I am not convinced myself whether it was worth the effort.
The photos aren't great and I will try and do better when I have done the other side. That will have to wait as I am off to HK and London for 2 weeks. Maybe when I get back I will finally be able to move past the hull to the deck and beyond.

The panel lines look just right, to my eye-not too obvious, but you know they're there.

Thank you all for your kind comments.
I was back last weekend for a couple of days and managed to finish the other side and lay the deck, all appropriately I guess, on Anzac day. I didn't have time to post the photos before heading off to Sydney.
Back now and into the world of resin dust i.e. the slow messy process of removing the key elements from their pour stubs and the smaller flatter pieces from the wafers which is eminently more messy.
Once the main superstructure pieces were done I couldn't help myself but pose them of course. It helps me feel like I am making progress.
Now the travelling is done I should start to make more progress above the deck though I haven't finished with the hull yet.

1) Am I correct; it seems from the photo of the starboard side, that there is an additional porthole nearest the front on the bottom row (a set of three instead of two)?
2) How did you do the panels on the sides?
3) Where did you source the kit from?

Thanks for checking it out.
In reverse order, this ComBrig kit came from Free Time Hobbies, www.freetimehobbies.com, a USA based company, pretty efficient but postage from the US is expensive. I have also sourced ComBrig from Russia, http://battleship-models.com/, slower but cheaper postage.
For the panels on the I guess you're refering to the horizontal paint effect and not the slab below the P/Q turrets
I am trying to effect the layered steel panel construction seen in the photos. I use Tamiya tape to effectively be the panel and use black and white oils for the lines. White on top and black below to represent light and shade. Once the oils have been on for 10-15 mins remove the tape and use white spirits to heavily dilute the oil paint. It's a bit trial and error though the good thing is the white spirit will completely remove the oil paint if you don't like the effect but only in the first hour or so. After a while the oil is dry and you're done. Then you can later add more effects on top, like weathering or rust.
Lastly, the portholes are the same on both sides
I think that is pretty standard for all manufacturers. I don't know if that was the case in reality but I try not to count them.

The panel effect is an interesting way to break up the whole grey effect. Paint is probably more subtle than some of the hull plated portrayals by the manufacturers.

Indeed the work continues. One thing with these resin kits you're always scratching around to construct the sub-assemblies or creating copious anounts of dust. Sometimes I wish for a nice styrene tree, a few snips, bit of glue and its done.

Happy to provide the info. I only stumbled across HMS NZ by listake when reading a Wiki account of Jutland which lead me to to explore further. It's strange there is so little acknowledgement of it compared to Achilles considering how popular it was when it visited here pre and post WWI.
