Greetings on this beautiful Sunday evening.

No brass on this late war ship Simon. I think it would have been a dead giveaway with the sun glinting off it.

I have been busy for the last few days and have made some progress. First up the hull has been painted. .

Then I started gluing the decks in place..

The only fit problem was the quarterdeck which just didn't fit properly. But after a little trimming and some persuasion it was fine. Then I started with all the deck fittings., including these tiny ventilators..

I should have painted them BEFORE I removed them from the sprues.. but live and learn. After a bit of painting etc I got the foredeck completed..

Well except for the anchor chains and turrets anyway.

That's it for the moment. I am going to be offline for a few days so I will get back to the model whenever I get the chance.

Cheers for now

You are right as usual Jan. But Inman's Shipyard is going on holiday for a week or so so updates will be very scarce.. L)

Warren,

Haguro is coming along nicely. You bring up a good point regarding the brass strip. I wonder if the painted over it or let is tarnish to keep off the glare.

hmmm...

I see some research coming up.

Looking forward to seeing more soon.

I agree Dave. In the early and pre-war periods yes to the nice, bright shiny strips, a job to keep bored seamen occupied, but not after the allies started sinking their ships at a great rate.

I are back from my trip to Brisbane and feeling a bit frazzled after a couple of 1000km+ days of driving. So I thought I would rest at home for the day and got back to the bench. I finished putting vents and things onto the Haguro's decks after I put the deck over the torpedo launches and the forward bridge deck..

Some more do-dads on the decks..

Internet playing up. More later

Cheers

How fast a week goes by...I still had your announcement of a stillstand in my mind, but yep, that was eight days ago...

And again more very nice work - somehow I have a feeling that this will be a quick one, Warren!

Coming on great guns Warren,

Good point re the brass deck strips, I presume they were either painted over, or just left to dull naturally. (need to some more research.

Enjoying following your work as usual.

Time for another update.

Things have slowed down as I have got to the superstructure construction stage. First up is the forward superstructure.

Note that the fit between the front piece and side pieces is not that great. After filling the gaps I attached the roof of that deck..

And the supports..

Note again the hole they ask you to drill is too large and it will need filling. Next step was the room on that deck..

This goes on top and covers the gap between the deck roof and superstructure.

That's it for now.

Cheers

Tidy start on the superstructure Warren,

Looks like it is going to be quite an impressive bridge tower.

Thanks Simon.

Unfortunately for the Haguro the structure is no where near as impressive as the Fuso etc. But they will be built a bit later.
But here are pictures of the bridge..

Then with the mast attached and painted..

I then started on the funnels. Here is the fore sunnel with it's PE jewellery attached..

And the rear funnel..

And yes, one of the sets of jackstays is missing as the carpet monster ate it.. well actually floating floor monster.

Then the main part of my 1:1 scale project came yesterday..

Can anyone guess what it is?

Regards
Warren

Nice progress on the bridge there Warren.

As for your 1:1 project, is it an engine block

It is an engine for my 1967 VW Beetle. The old engine lost its oil pressure the other week but unfortunately 1300 parts are hard to get now so 1600 is going in.

Would have done an update last night by the whole state was without power due to a ridiculous system that shuts power off if it senses a fault anywhere in the state!!!

So, the question becomes: will you be doing the engine swap yourself? And, is your Veedub your daily transport?

I think we need a photo of the beast put up too

As for the power going out-we heard about that on the news! What a joke to shut down the whole state! I'm surprised there wasn't a whole spate of disasters!

If I was 20 years older I would have no hesitation doing the swap, but this one needs a bit of machining before the new engine will fit, and I haven't got the right tools for the job anymore.

Veedub is not my daily transport. I have a Ford G6E or Mitsubishi Pajero for that.

OK. After all those important questions its time for an update!

First up the funnels have had their black tops added and at least one of them has been glued in position..

Then I started on the parts for midships..

And a couple of the towers for the area..

That's all for the moment. Only one or two updates before I am off to Bathurst for my annual pilgrimage to the mountain.

Cheers

Time for another update, the last for about a week as I am making my pilgrimage to the mountain again. First up the main funnel and bridge are place after a bit of finessing.

Then, while I was retrieving another piece that had attempted to sacrifice itself to the floating floor monster I found the missing jackstay!

Then I constructed and installed the midships searchlight platform.

Here are the supports..

Then I cam to one of the radar aerials , this one on the main mast. First up you bend this one in half..

Then you glue it to this part..

And you end up with this..

And I did a little more but didn't take any photos of it. But I was in the hobby store yesterday and saw this..

It was such a good price I bought it on the spot. Can keep my Rodney company.

That's it for a bit. Son is down minding the house and pets. 1000km drive tomorrow to West Wyalong for the night then to Bathurst the day after. The fun then begins when I try and erect our new tent.

Very nice work and great progress, Warren!

Boeing offline for a week or so always means to miss a couple of your updates...
Once Si mentioned the designer stools - well, with that idea in my head they certainly look like that... -you can thank Si, you'll always have stools on your Haguro now...

She's looking really good, though!!

Cheers,
Jan
