Hello everyone.

While I wait for some Gull Grey (gray) for my USS Nimitz's aircraft I decided to start another build. This time it is Aoshima's 1/350 scale IJN Haguro Myoko Class Heavy Cruiser.

And of course I have one or two PE sets for it..

There was also a small one in the box so that makes about 5. Some of them repeat items on other frets but not one of these had a full set for the ship.. and I don't think anyone makes a full set for the Haguro, only the Myoko. So I got down to it and glued the hull halves and all their bracing bits together held in place by a few clamps..

One good thing I found in this kit is that the sprues don't just have their letters on the surface of the sprue but it is actually punched through the sprue which to me makes it much easier to read..

That's it for now. I haven't seen much Aoshima stuff here so I thought this may interest a few people.

Cheers for now

Warren,

I have the Baby to in the stash so I will be watching closely.

Hope to have my room set up soon so I can get back into the shipyard

Hi Warren,

Another interesting vessel, have the kit, but need some more aftermarket for it.

Got interested in building it because it was the last warship sunk in a ship to ship action by the Royal Navy in WW2.

(Just read "The Sea Devils" by Mark Felton" about the XE Craft in the far east, so after the Takao too).

will be along for the ride.

Cheers

Might have to see if it available in audio books. Haven't got time for reading anymore.

The only PE I could find was by Aoshima. Try Japanese websites.

Are they both 1/350? What is the fit like on the Fuso?

Didn't get a lot done on the Haruna as I got some bits I needed for the Nimitz. But I did get the windows filled that needed filling to make the 1944 version.

I used Mr Surfacer 500 to fill them. I thought I had run out totally and had ordered another one, but while I was looking in my cupboard of stuff I found a small cardboard box with 'Mr Surfacer 500' on the side. They use these small boxes to ship paint but imagine my delight when I opened it and found six unopened bottles of Mr Surfacer 500 in it! Woohoo!

So the portholes are filled and whenever I get another break in the Nimitz build I will be back to this one.

Warren,

Yes, both are 1/350 scale. I have not gotten to far on the Fuso but the for is pretty good so far. Hopefully I will be moving a little faster soon so I'll know more

Haguro is looking good

I have both in the stash but the Yorktown will come first as I have had it longer than the Fuso.

Cheers and thanks

Hello everyone.

Now that the Nimitz is finished it is on with the Haguro for a while. First up I fitted the prop shafts and supports..

Next I got the decks ready for painting with either Linoleum Brown or Grey, Gray or grey.. of which I have many hues..
Here are the decks..

There is no flash and the moulding is excellent. No soft detail here.

That's it for the moment.

And a very quick one. This afternoon I started attaching the degaussing cable onto the hull. It is a weird oily plastic (I think it is the same as Dragon DS) and I thought normal glue wouldn't work. How wrong I was and the normal Tamiya Extra Thin cement does a wonderful job. The glue seems to go off nice and fast but the DS plastic is very flexible and you can reposition the nice, flexible plastic for at least a minute after you apply the cement.

Wonderous stuff. This kit is getting better and better.

Not sure if this kit is going to need any PE except for the railings the moulding is that good. We shall see.

Cheers

Wow, straight ahead for the next one!

Nice start!

Even so the IJN is not my focus, I#m in for this one, no question. Should be another interesting build Warren, I'm looking forward to follow!

Well after washing the parts last night I rinsed them and let them dry overnight before I squirted some Tamiya XF-79 in the appropriate places..

This is supposed to illustrate the Haguro in 1944 and I am assuming that the lovely brass strips they used to hold down the lino would have been painted over, or corroded over by 1944. Therefore, the raised ribs you see here will be staying Linoleum Brown..

The fit is awesome with no adjustments needed for great fit.

That's it for now

Cheers

Looking good Warren,

Always good to hear of a great fit, especially as I have it in my stash.

Decks look good with paint on too.

Thanks Guys.

Fit of the big bits is always very important and is normally hard to get right.

Quite right there Jan. This is one of their older moulds and I also built their older Kongo which was good. It will be interesting to compare with the updated Kongo I have to build.

But first I have to complete this one! I got the Sasebo Arsenal Grey paint out and started painting the bits that need to be grey..

I also got the first coat on the hull but I had forgotten to drill out those pesky portholes. Will do that then give it it's final coat of grey.

Cheers for now
