Tim,
Thanks for this info. I wasn't aware of this pe set. I may give it a go after my next check. At any rate I have a ways to go before I'm ready for the pe.
Thanks again.

So far the only progress I have made is to glue the top fin back on. I'll post a picture once I get some paint on it.

Managed to put an initial coat of Tamiya NATO Black on the hull. A better second coat will probably happen tonight.

It's been bare plastic since 2005. Of course, it doesn't look a whole lot better after the first coat. I will try another coat soon.

Here is my entry into the campaign. Academy's HMS Warspite with the full Pontos Upgrade kit.

She was my first kit after a 10 year hiatus and honestly more than I could handle. She has been sitting at this level of completion for about 2 years now. Luckily I am far more confidant and skilled at handling PE and teeny parts now.

Still have to do her boats, cranes, masts, railings and a few other sundry bits and bobs. Derricks are on but not painted and will need wire added. Hopefully this campaign will give me the boot in my arse I need to complete this magnificent ship.

It looks pretty good. I'm sure you'll be able to finish it before the year ends!

I don't know what you mean, Rory - what you have so far looks great! It will be fun to watch you proceed with Warspite, and if you get stuck again, there are plenty of knowledgeable people on this board who can give you solid building advice. Good luck with it!

It was all the photoetch that broke my will. All that teeny tiny PE! Couldnt even look at the ship for 6 months after doing all the 20mm Orlikon's. (30 of the things if I remember correctly)

So I have now gotten started on finishing this kit. Started working on the cranes. I was a bit leary of this as it looked like a right bear to do but ended up going together pretty quickly. One completed with one to do.

Rory,
Everything is looking great, keep up the good work. Keep plugging away and before you know it you'll have a Warspite in the display case.
Take care,

Work continues apace. Joining this campaign has really motivated me to get on with it.

2nd crane is complete as well as the Main mast. This was very fiddly to build and the instructions are not clear on some of the build steps. Luckily other brave souls have built up this kit before and I was able to find good reference online.

I still need to go back and clean up some of the excess glue but overall I am very happy with the result of my 4 hours work.

I am going to call this done. HMS Warspite is complete. I may go back one day and do the rigging once I have confidence in not wrecking it.

And in pride of place in the display case!

Overall I am really pleased with how she came out.

She really came out nice, love the paint work and weathering. She looks a little lonely on that shelf by herself. Any plans for another?

We are approaching the 2 month mark. Remember that you might not have enough time for modelling because of the holidays!
