Correct me if I am wrong, but seems to me we a while since we did flattops.
I am thinking carriers, LHDs anything with a full length flight deck. maybe even aircraft that flew off flattops.
12 months starting say end march, to give time to clear building slots.
Cheers
Si

Sounds good, I'm in with Hasegawa's 1:350 USS Gambier Bay. Hopefully with better luck than I had with my two previous ships builds here...

Sounds good to me. I have several Japanese carriers to choose from. This could be the push I need to start one.

It seems a good idea and I would like to build a carrier but if I go the whole nine yards with aftermarket (which is hard to avoid with the flattops) and its a March start to be honest I will need more than a year

Thanks guys,
I am thinking the Trumpy Yorktown (CV10) as the Intrepid, with the Pontos upgrade (which does contain some of the bits needed for the conversion) and a goodly portion for extra aircraft for a mid late 44 airwing.
We could for a slightly later start if that would help people clear some building room.
Cheers

What about carrier-based aircraft? Or just the ships? What about a flattop diorama?
Posted: Thursday, January 11, 2018 - 11:54 PM UTC
Great Idea. I'm mostly booked out towards June and my speed leaves a year as too little time.

You would devote time to another ship than the Grand Old Lady?!?!

Partially started builds allowed? I just got my flyhawk set for dragons CVL-22. Gives me cause to get her off the shelf.

Hi Bill,
Like it, yup we could include carrier based aircraft, dioramas of course, both ship and aircraft.

Hi Norman,
Yup, started builds allowed, would be excellent to the CVL22 along, it is a great kit, if a bit testing at times.

After that conversation, I think a recap is in order.
Any ship with a full length flight deck, including LHDs, or for us Brits Commando Carriers.
Carrier based aircraft, fixed and rotary wing - must be in the markings of an aircraft that flew from a ship as classified above.
Dioramas allowed, but should include part or all of a ship as classified above.
Started builds allowed.
Any Scale.
I am getting feeling some would prefer a slightly later start, so shall we say 1st May?
Let me know what thinks.
Cheers.

Sounds excellent, the independence got shelved due to the unworkability of the Eduard etch, I am not knocking the quality of Eduards set, it's an excellent set, it's the fact it's nickel plated and I like to solder my etch if possible, also the eduard set is basic and doesn't include some things I wanted. Now that I have the flyhawk set and the wooden deck I'd have no excuse not to finish her.

And yes Si I know what you mean about testing you. The instructions have mislabeled parts and it was very confusing, especially around the funnels. You have to pay close attention. I wish dragon would go away from the exploded view assembly in the instructions, there's too much room for error there. Otherwise their ship kits are outstanding. The destroyer kits are simply amazing.

I do have a soft spot for Dragon's destroyers - would love them add a British destroyer or two.
Problems with the instructions and Dragon's wonderful over-engineering is part of the fun.
Back on topic, looking forward to seeing your Indy.

maybe even aircraft? oh, sir, I am sorely tempted to join.
A while back I started a meta-project to build a 1/144 scale CV-6 circa 1941 - Si, you were there - this is as far as i got -

since then i have acquired some new airplane kits for that project, three TBDs and four wildcats. I'd want to dress them as best i could for a 1941 USS Enterprise air group.

i might get the CV-6 project out of its lodgings as well, and push it forward a little...
(one of the several points )I got hung up on, was detailing the flight deck, and I commissioned a Shapeways artist to make these tie down strips. they looks good, I still need to design and build arester wire systems.

OK I am in with Merit's Enterprise and Infini set.
Should I ask for the extension now or wait until later?

cheers
