Steve,
Agree, nice progress on the hull. I am really liking the detail on the main deck. I haven't built a American warship yet so I am now thinking about taking on my Alaska kit after I finish my current build.

Looking good, I have the wood deck for this from artwox and plan on getting the ship with the very fire update set. That’s a maybe, I’m interested in this build. I may end up selling the deck though since I won’t be able to talk the mrs into letting this box through the door lol.

Thanks, guys.
A bit more deckwork. Just let me say that I hate PE.
I added the forward 40mm gun tub. Bending the PE base wasn't too bad.

THen, I sat and stared at the instructions. Most of the remaining deck fittings have tiny PE screens.

I decided to move on to something else and save this for later. Large PE parts aren't as trying as the smaller items, especially the screens and particularly when they need to be curved instead of just bent.
So, I moved on the forward superstructure. Yes, some small PE, but no tiny screens! Lots of gun tubs!
Still work to do on it and I see that I'll need to add some filler.

More updates to come and I'll eventually get to that PE.

Steve,
She coming along nicely. Agree making curve PE is a challenge. It is one thing that befuddles me trying to get the curve correctly.
Good luck.

Agree with Mark,
Curved PE can be a pain, but a very tidy job Steve.
Cheers

Steve,
Your Alaska is coming along nicely - the etch really adds finesse.

Do you know the purpose of the step on the bow near the waterline? My first thought was that it was a molding error on the model, but looking at your close up pic, it seems to have been put there intentionally...

Tim,
I have no idea and wondered that myself.
I saw a line drawing of the Alaska online and it showed that step in the stem. Odd.

Steve,
Great start on an interesting topic!
Too big for my cave, so I'm still hoping for a 1/700 example... Will be following with interest!
Cheers!

Thanks for the positive comments, guys.
Small update, sort of....
I've spent the last week or so, off and on, doing PE work. I am about 50% done with the PE on the forward superstructure. I'm at the point, I think, where I'll need to mount this on the deck before I do any more, lest I start snapping off the PE. There are some intricate railings that need to go on the first level.

Thanks for looking.

Steve,
The PE is really making the superstructure pop. Nice work.

There is still a lot more work to do on the forward superstructure, mainly lots of PE railings. Russell asked a good question in how am I gonna paint it. I figured that I better work is subassemblies, paint them, then add them all at the end.
Here is the stack with lots of PE. THis is about a weeks worth of work (Off and on). Some of it still needs to be bent into the proper shape and I'll get to it later.

Steve,
Can I send you my PE and have you bend it for me...LOL. Again nice PE work and getting it into place. All of those turns and circles are a real challenge.

Very tidy work with the PE Steve

In painting terms, I'm the first to admit that I try to assemble as much as possible before painting, but where I come undone is when there are areas such as decks that require a different colour. Masking PE railings or near them I've found to be nearly impossible

I hear ya. I may put off attaching further railings. I'll paint them while still on the fret and put them on later.

Thanks, Jan and welcome to the party.
I've paused most of the construction while I figure out how to paint the MS-32/7C camouflage. I have some assemblies done and I'll be posting them soon.
Thanks for looking.

I am also building this model I've nearly finished the main structures section 40 but the gun directors from section 29 PE parts C3 are so flimsy I've had to replace them I used these from model monkey
