Steve,
Nice job that you are doing so far. I have this kit, and will start soon.
In regard to the painting, you may wish to consider this publication. Mike walks through the construction and painting steps in a very clear manner.
Note, I have no connection to Mike Ashey, just a buyer:

I am also building this model I've nearly finished the main structures section 40 but the gun directors from section 29 PE parts C3 are so flimsy I've had to replace them I used these from model monkey

Peter,
Thanks for the tip. I made one of those and wasn't too happy with the result. I'll definitely look into these.

Hi Guys,
Conrinuing on with the build finally. Here, I've progressed a little with the after superstructure. I haven't added any of the PE railings, though.

These next two pics are one of the gun directors. I am not happy with how it turned out. The antenna PE was very flimsy and had many folds to it. I've decided to replace it with a set from Shapeways.

I also started on more of the forward superstructure. Next on this will come the massive radar.

I'll do some more work on the 40 mm gun tubs and then start to paint.
THanks for looking.
Steve

here's some pictures of mine I usually paint everything including the PE the main colour while still on the spruces then just a little top up where the attach points are on complex camo I make all the main structures with out PE so I can mask it off then I ad all the PE and small parts your going to have a hard time masking it like you said the PE radar is rubbish I have replaced it with Model monkey and a set of US radar from eduard as I wasn't happy with both from trumpeter
