I hope you will not put the air recognition paint job on this model Mark. That insignia is vile, but that notwithstanding would it be accurate?

Bismarck was in Norway, before she set out on her mission. She was camouflaged, as far as I can tell the way you have her here. Beautiful job by the way. There would be no need at that time of the war for her to carry air recognition marking in some cold back water as she made preparations. Part of those preparations that have been fairly well documented is that the Baltic stripes were painted out prior to departure. The paint subsequently washed off as it was not completely dry and cured, and the sea left it in a state where the stripes partially showed through the paint meant to cover them.

There would be a need for air recognition marking as the Bismarck passed out of the Baltic Sea and into the Atlantic, but once she was deep into the Atlantic, intent on commerce raiding such stripes would again not be necessary, in fact a hindrance to mission.

So my question, and I really don't expect an answer, is, did Bismarck ever carry her air recognition markings and Baltic stripes at the same time? Tradition says yes, but the operational parameters of the mission would suggest no.

How's that for a late night question before I go to bed?

Please report on your thoughts concerning AK paint Mark. How does it brush?

I am portraying her as at may 18 1941, Her Hull had Baltic Stripes but her Superstructure was painted out. Her Air Recognition were painted over in a dark sea grey Colour. After that Date her Hull was also painted over. Late in her failed Mission her Hull Camo started showing through. When Bob Ballard visited the Wreck Sea Water and Time eroded the Paint on her Deck to reveal her Air Recognition Markings. Half of the after one is missing as this is where the Stern broke of from her Hull. As for the AK Paints, they take a lot of tweaking to get the correct Paintflow through an Airbrush. They are great for Brush Painting, If you Airbrush be prepared to spend some time cleaning your A/B as it clogs easily in the Brush. To Airbrush I suggest using a Paint Retarder to get good results.....Cheers Mark

Glad to hear that the AK paints are good for brushing. Most of my work is on the little fellows in 1/1200-1250 and a good accurate paint that can be brushed is a must,
