Pretty much agree with that list Rory, and I would agree Hobby Boss should be included, I have built a few of their kits, and they are very complete with the amount of etch they include. one the flip side, Airfix may be a major manufacturer on the Aviation side, but don't produce many ships, and the moulds for a fair few of them are older than me
Agree regarding Resin, totally agree.
My tuppence worth.

I'm new to model ship-building and have one ship in progress in the Dry-Dock 2019 Campaign.
Reviewing the ideas for future campaigns I thought that maybe one especially for newbies might work. People like myself who want to try out ship building but are bewildered by the choice of kits, overwhelmed by the techniques required, and don't know where to turn for resources/references/materials and so on.
Maybe experienced builders could monitor, or mentor a newbie through a build.
Just an idea.
BTW - I'd be interested in the less than 1000 tons campaign because I have a Heller 1/150 scale Tartane of about 70 tons to build.

Quoted TextThomas,
Would you like to take one of your ideas and officially propose it? Then we could we see if we get ten interested shipwrights to take on their builds.
Take care,
Don "Lakota"
Hi Don, I already wrote an email to modelshipwrights with my proposal for a "below 1.000 tons" campaign. It was said I have to wait for at least two weeks for a reply but until now no response...
I would have quite a few small ships and even submarines which would fit for that task so I would have a lot choice here.
If the admin is waiting for the requisite number of people to express interest in the campaign proposal, I would sign up for it. I have some MTBs of various scales and nationalities and could certainly do one of those!

Woohoo, that's the best kind of miss-counting on my part

I already have my kits lined up. Yes, kits... I have a small resin kit which is well under the 1000 tons and 1 that's pushing the limit

I have quite a big choice of interesting vessels for this small tonnage. Also Looking forward to the campaign start

Hi Thomas,
There is a tutorial on the Armorama page for campaign leaders. It might be helpful. I don't think you start a campaign by just emailing the Administrator, but I could be wrong. It looks like you need fill out more stuff.
Good luck, I can't wait to see this one start. I'm still undecided on my build. I'm not sure if the submarines I could build will be under 1,000 tons. I'll need to do more research. If they don't meet the rules I have other models I could build.
Take care,
Don "Lakota"

Actually, I believe this one has already been submitted. Just waiting for the MS campaign admin to have a look at it and decide whether to approve it.

I-13 and I-14 are 3600+ tons
but Type A Midget submarine comes in at 46 tons. My Fine Molds 1/72 kit is not completed. It may be a contender as my pick to build for this campaign. I also have a 1/72 Trumpeter LCM I'm thinking about doing.

If Special Navy releases Vesikko (250 tons) before the campaign starts, then it's no-brainer for me. Otherwise I'll pick largest box that fits the campaign rules from stash, which is Merit's PT boat.

The Vesikko, Now that is a kit I am looking forward to as well.
Depending on the timescale of the campaign there are few ideas in my stash for smaller (in the real world) subjects. Soviet G5 mtb, or Seehund in 1/35th.
Cheers

I think the Type VII qualifies. According to Wikipedia (which is always right!) they weigh in at 871 tonnes (857 long) submerged.

Michael,
Thanks for the info. I have an AFV Club 1/350 Type VIIC; also the German E-Boat comes in at a mere 100 tons. I have the 1/350 Trumpeter and 1/72 Revell kits. I like the possibilities.

I also have multiple choice for that:
- IJN Type A midget submarine; 1:35 scale from Accurate Armor
- Typ VIIC submarine with a lot extras; 1:72 scale from Revell
- Typ XXIII submarine; 1:72 scale from Special Navy
- S-100 Schnellboot with a lot extras; 1:72 scale from Revell
- HMS Zinnia Flower class Corvette; 1:350 scale from Mirage
- IJN Subchaser Nr. 28 class; 1:350 scale from Rainbow
- Visby Corvette; 1:350 scale from Orange Hobby
- Arquebuse class destroyer; 1:350 scale from ITA shipyards
decisions, decisions...

Quoted TextIs a good idea. However if you might consider a liberal interpretation of the 1000 ton limit:
- Flower Class Corvette: 1070 tons
- Castle Class Corvette: 1077 tons
- Hunt Class DE: 1020 tons
- Algerine Class minesweepers: 1030 tons
- etc.
I view all the above as being small ships
Hi Cypryan,
I don´t mind if we would call the Campaign also "Below 1.100 tons". I have quite some small ships matching this size.
Did we ever come to a consensus on how much over we were allowed or if the 1000 tons was a hard limit?
