I am under the impression that was the hard limit, under 1000 tons.

That's also what I thought. Perhaps after this campaign someone could propose an "Under 1500 tons" campaign. I'd sign up for it.
Take care,

As the "Under 1000 tons" campaign comes to a close I think I would be a good idea to open this back up to suggestions again.

There were a lot of good ones posted earlier so I am down for any of those but maybe some new ones as well.

I have a few new ones. Bear in mind these are all inspired by what's in my stash so may be a bit biased

Tin Can Sailors: Campaign based on Destroyers.

Escorts: This can be as wide or narrow as we want. I am envisioning it as more for ships primarily built as escorts ie Destroyers, Frigates, Corvettes, Sloops etc but we could open it to any class of ship that has done escorting.

Modern Warriors: Ships built post WW2

Rory,

I like the idea of a Tin-Can campaign. I been looking for an excuse to start building one.

First visit to model shipwrights here. I'm fairly new on Armorama as well, so take these suggestions with a grain of salt. I really have little knowledge of what people here are interested in. Here's my suggestions:

coal burners - I have this German battlecruiser kit I started some time ago that I'd like to finish and having a campaign might help.

flight operations - anything that has something that flies - a carrier, a battleship with a catapult, a destroyer with a helicopter pad - depicting it in some stage of flight operation.

Not a suggestion, but if you do a destroyer campaign I have something I would do.

Coal burners sounds tempting - a good reason to build my SMS Dresden, the ghost cruiser of the Magellans

Looking at what's in my stash, either the Tin Can, Escorts or Flight Ops campaigns would get my vote.
Got a lots of destroyers and a few carriers crying out to be built.

I love those ships. I went looking for some of them awhile back and I couldn't find anything in plastic. Are all the offerings resin?

Flyhawk listed Emden as a kit they were going to do in plastic. I'd buy that in a heartbeat, but a lot of things they said they would do back then have come to naught.

I did build Revell´s Emden here about two years ago in her prewar livery with both of the Eduard sets and some 3D printed parts (guns and searchlights). Was not an easy build but it always attracts the visitior´s eyes in my office

It looks like the Tin Can Sailor idea seems to be the most popular idea.

Should we start defining what the limits would be?

I say that because this is considered a destroyer by her navy. Izumo Helicopter-Destroyer.

And I have also read that a lot of navys use the term inter-changeably with frigates such as the Germans/Dutch etc.

We also have the Chinese Type 055 destroyer which Nato is calling a cruiser due to its size.

Rory,

She is only called a destroyer due to Japan's issue with their constitution. Otherwise she would be called an aircraft carrier. I would we stick to traditional classifications.

I don't disagree and I will also be building a traditional destroyer if the campaign goes ahead but I also know something like it will come up so best to work out the parameters beforehand.

Unless anyone has an objection I am going to submit a proposal for the Tin Can Sailor Campaign. This would be the first campaign I have proposed or submitted so before I do, could I get some thoughts on the below?

Start date of October 1st and have it run for a year since us ship builders are a slow lot

No limits on scale or vessel tonnage.

I have no issues with started kits but no more than 25% completed.

Kit must fit the classic definition of a destroyer. (From Wikipedia - "A destroyer is a fast, maneuverable, long-endurance warship intended to escort larger vessels in a fleet, convoy or battle group and defend them against powerful short range attackers")

All aftermarket parts/PE welcome.

If I have missed anything please let me know.

Rory,

I like the rules. Having the high speed rule will eliminate destroyer escorts.
