Its been a slow 2 weeks. Semi stalled due to Thanksgiving and with building the helicopters for the hanger deck.
There is a special place in Hades for whoever decided to mold super delicate rotor blades out of brittle transparent plastic.
I have managed to break 2 sets of UH-1N blades so far. Luckily, since they will be inside the hanger and not that visible my repair jobs wont be super obvious.
But seriously, in general, molding in clear plastic is just
I ended up priming the helicopters on the sprues just so I could see what I am doing.
Fortunately, the 10 aircraft for the hanger deck are now built. Just have to complete the painting and then glue them in place.
Unfortunately, that means there is still another 20 to build to go onto the flight deck...

Can you source spares from the After Market crowd? Or perhaps Trumpeter sell them separately?

I know I can get PE blades if I need them but I will only go that route if I screw up the birds going on the deck. Any dodgy repair jobs can be hidden when the hanger bay is filled up.

New packs of UH-1s aren't wildly expensive. It's odd; Trumpeter's early 1/350 aircraft came in gray plastic for the bodies, black for landing gear and jet nozzles, and clear for canopies - and then they changed them all over to clear only. It's brittle, hard to see when painting - it must've saved them a lot of money at the injection molding stage because it otherwise sucks.

catching up once again, looks really cool, very nice progress!! I can feel your pain with those clear plastic molded aircraft - just those few Walrus and one Arado I had to deal with so far (different topic, but some clear plastic) were painful enough...

Weekend update time. Finally got all the hanger deck aircraft complete. They very much fall into "Nice from Far, far from nice" category. Luckily, the dark hanger deck hides a multitude of sins and provided a way for me to do 'test' builds on them.
All ready for installation.
All nice and cozy in their new home.

Lights went in really nicely but I have noticed they are somewhat blue tinted when set to white which is annoying. Still, she looks good so far. Flight deck is also on and glued down.

Update time. Build was slowed down by the holiday season and all the little gubbins I had to build and paint. If I never see another set of rails, stairs and life raft canisters it will be too soon!
That being said all the above are attached and painted. Weapon systems are built, painted and will be attached after decaling.
Flight deck and lifts are built and painted. Just need decaling before I attach the lifts.
I have had to use many hues of grey to add some variety to this ship which I think I have mostly achieved.
Next up is gloss coat and decals. Then I will tackle the island before moving onto the remaining aircraft and amphibious boats etc. My goal is to have the ship fully built by the end of January. Aircraft and amphibs will occupy most of February I think.

After 2 loooooong decaling sessions I have finally completed the main hull of my USS Iwo Jima. Decals mostly went on with no issues but I did have to cut away a ton of decal film. Even then I still had some silvering issues but they are not major.
Only thing left to add to the hull is the ships boats and 2 antenna looking thingies (I will add those right before commissioning because experience has shown me those get knocked off easily)
Really happy with how she looks right now.
