Si,

Fine progress, she is taking shape nicely. The stair placement looks good, I always have a hard time getting the angle correctly.

never was a big admirer of flat tops until the last few years, but the more I see and read about them, the more I've come to appreciate their technological achievement and now some of my favorite ships are flat tops!

Si, Your build is certainly a great tribute to a landmark ship in terms of the USN's development of the carrier vessel type

PS. Highly recommend the new Midway film, if you haven't seen it already

Hi Russ,

I must admit, as a modeller I am a battleship man, but I love the esoteric engineering of this fine ship, and for such an important ship she is somewhat forgotten.

I have seen midway, totally agree, very good film indeed,

Thanks for looking in Mate.

Cheers

Agreed, mate. Battleships are the go to for me too, but after seeing Midway, I'd love to be able to get hold of one of Merit's 1/350 Yorktown class kits... but at $300AUD plus another $300AUD for the AM.... well what can I say?

I know what you mean Mark,

The language coming out of my workshop was a little fruity to say the least, especially fitting those that went through holes in the catwalks on to narrow platforms.

It have found a good pair of needle nosed tweezers at the top end and a cocktail stick to ease the lower end into place, oh and the ability to hold your breath whilst doing it helps.

Thanks for looking in Mate.

Thanks Rory,

Quite a lot to this lady, bit she is coming on. Working on the Avengers and Wildcats to go in the hanger, need to get those and the catwalk AA in place before the flightdeck goes down.

Si,

just very nice work here, as well. She's looking much more busy with all those fine details below the flight deck than I had assumed at first. Great etch work once again, coming along nicely. The new workshop seems to be very effective!

Thanks Jan,

The trumpy etch handles quite well compared to some, especially as the ladders that went though holes in the catwalk actually fitted without any issues.

The New workshop is a much better space than the old one, a little bigger, better lit and proper ventilation so I can spray all year round.

Appreciate you looking in.

This week has been a bit hectic, finally, last weekend's progress.

six avengers under way.

paintwork progressing, along with the Wildcat for the After elevator and the Dauntless for the middle one

Still have not been able to source the correct decals for the aircraft, may have to go with what I have if I can't find anything in time.

On with the Funnels.

All six built, the port side test fitted.

All six in painted and in place.

I have corrected the slight "wonk" on the forward port funnel.

.

One of the kit 5", not too bad, intend to use these, unless I can source enough black cat or veteran parts.

An overview with the deck test fitted in place.

More soon.

Cheers

Si

Si,

Nice progress. I hope the decals go on those planes easier than they did for me with the Akagi build.

These look pretty good. I would happily use them on one of my kits.

Thanks Mark,

Decaling is not my favourite part of the hobby, I must admit,

got most on the paint on the aircraft built so so far yesterday.

Thanks for looking in.

Good point Rory, I have taken another close look at that mount and I reckon you are right.

You might have noticed I am a bit of a "lazy modeller" - if in doubt, reach for the aftermarket. Maybe I need to look at the kit parts first.

Appreciate you looking mate,

A bit more progress.

The first wave of aircraft painted and ready for decals (albiet slightly inaccurate ones).

Ready to go in the Hanger.

in place, the wildcat is on the after elevator.

A tricky angle, but the Dauntless on the forward elevator seen through the open shutter.

The detail in the hanger on this kit begs for this sort of treatment, A couple more avengers and few more wildcats to go in. yet, and the first strike for Operation Leader ranged on deck.

Appreciate you looking Tim.

Hi Mark,

I do like to see planes on carrier.

The planes are pretty good, the decals are the issue, the stars and bars should have a red surround, but have not been able to find any appropriate decals.

I can live with this little issue.

Thanks for looking in Mate.

Hi Si,

http://www.goldmm.com/ships/350-6D.htm
Take a look at Gold Medal Models WW2 USN AIRCRAFT DECALS (1/350 SCALE). If your planes' markings start to bother you, this set has the US national markings with the red surround.
