Without text would be my choice. I agree, the outline is iconic enough.

We are only 2 days out from the start date and I am raring to go!

My DD has been selected and the box is already sitting on my workbench waiting to be cracked open and started

It should be fun. I pulled my box also. I think I have some aftermarket stuff for it too, but I couldn't find that easily. It's supposed to be nice OOB so might just do it that way.

Phil, that is a great idea! as I work seemingly endlessly on my 1/200 Hatsuzuki the idea of simply having fun building something out of the box is very appealing indeed. I may take your lead and do a simpler build for this Campaign as well.

Hmmm. I found my aftermarket stash. I have all kinds of turrets, torpedo mounts, and aa mounts, but no PE railings. I can't figure out why I got that other stuff but no railings - there are none in the kit.

Oh well, I think this is going to be straight out of the box then.

I have two Yamashita Fubukis. I will build Inazumi using the Hibiki kit. It's the 1941 config, so an early war version.

Will this become the official campaign thread? Do I post my start pic here now?

I am not sure to be honest. This is the thread linked in the Campaign description page. Tim, can you assist?

Well, here we go. If I need to post these links somewhere else, I'm happy to do that!

I love the little box with a 1/700 ijn destroyer in it. It feels so good in my hand.

I opened the pack with the hull and removed it from the sprue. It's a little bowed so first step will be to give it a hot bath!

I will be doing the same. Getting the post up so I can get started.

I decided to go a bit crazy and will be doing not 1, but 2 ships.

1/350 JMSDF Myoko

1/350 JMSDF Atago

I think I will be going back and buying some additional aftermarket for these.

Might as well jump in now with Dragon's USS Buchanan DD-484 1942. This kit is a early 1942 but I am going to convert the ship into a late 1942 by removing one of the 20mm and the 1.1 inch quad with 2 twin 40mm mounts.

Thanks Rory. That link did the trick.
I've got a few destroyer kits but I just picked up a Mirage 1/400 scale kit of the USS Ward. I like the early war vehicles and ships so this kit moved up my priority list. My experience with Mirage kits have been hit or miss so far. It will be mostly an OOB build.
Thanks guys

Another thanks for the link. It appears that the campaign page acts differently in each site. I'm usually on Aeroscale and it doesn't show any of the ship campaigns. I'm guessing that some part of the set up requires a "General Modeling" flag to be set before it shows up in the other queues.
I'm in with Shanghai Dragon Arleigh Burke in 1/700.

All right then Lads: I hear you need a Type 45 for this campaign? So after careful consideration, I'll join in with my build which you can find on the New MSW site!

Now, where's the official thread to post the starting shots? And shouldn't it be on the new MSW site???

I love weekend builds. No photos yet, but all of the subassemblies are assembled and primed. Hope to get a first coat on tomorrow and will post some pictures then.

Components mostly painted. I'll let the linoleum dry overnight before masking it to get the grey down. A little bit of hand painting (I'm going to try to do the funnel bands) and then putting it all together.

Thanks. I'm going to have to switch to a white background to photograph this grey ship.

Hopefully will have some more assembled tonight.

Hull, deck, and midships superstructure glued in place. I bailed on the funnel bands. I think it would look worse than if I left it off.

Phil, I know what you mean! I can still remember picking up that "Water Line Series" Tamiya 1/700 Hatsuyuki kit at the dime store as a child (us old guys remember - the ones with the painting on the front and profile rendering of the ship on the back of the box). It did feel just right. The first of many more!

After talking to Jim I have decided to move this over to the new forum as the current forum will be phased out over the next few weeks.

I have created a new Thread over there and I encourage all of you to post your updates etc on that site.

It can be found here: https://forums.kitmaker.net/t/tin-can-sailors-campaign-group-build/314
