I'm posting this for Darryl (11Charlie). This is to see who is interested in a future Submarine Campaign. There is a need to know if there is going to be enough builders to make this qualify for a campaign.
The campaign would be for any type of Submarine model, Military or civilian, And in any scale.
With all the new interest in Submarines lately, This is a good time for Armorama's first Submarine Campaign!
This is all Darryl's ballgame here, I'm just helping out.

I'll be the first swabbie to step up to the plate!
I will build either a Revell Monogram 1/220 USS Lyonfish WW-2 Submarine or a Nichimo 1/200 U511 German Uboat. Maybe even both!

Best regards,

Garry

Garry

I'm kind of an armor dude, but a sub is something I'd be tempted to try. Sign me up for this one if it goes.

Thanks Garry! Just the kind of help a rookie like me needs!

I'm still taking suggestions on what good sub kits are out there....

Thanks!

Count me in!!

Having still to decide which one:
- Accurate Armour 1/35 X-Craft
- NMS 1/35 SLC200 Maiale
- Revell Germany 1/144 Type 206
- Revell Monogram 1/220 USS Lionfish + Nautilus Models Conning Tower Resin Set

If time and inspirations allows more than one will be on this Campaign!!

For Darryl:
It depends on the era you want to make it, but any of the static Trumpeter Subs are good models in a good scale for seeing details;
Revell Germany has also excellent models (type XXI, type 206 - both in 1/144 and the latest 1/72 type VII-C);
For recent US Boomers the Shangay Dragon models are also good and easy subjects!!

If you need any help in choosing one (or more) just ask!!

Skipper

PS: Just remembered that Trumpeter is releasing a USS Seawolf in December and ICM is releasing their Type XXIII - both in 1/144

You can sign me in for the revell 1/72 VII-C !!
(u-82 for the moment)
(I just hope it's ok to enter this one in the campaign as I already started the kit before the start of the campaign .... but I only drilled the floodholes and installed a few torpedo tubes) but at the speed that was going I should be finished with the rest before let's say december 2005....

Hi Lim!
The start date will more then likely be either mid December or the first of January. Darryl will make the true date as the campaign is aproved.

Cheers,

Garry

This is getting good! I'm really loving all this enthusiasm. Quite motivating....

I haven't seen any of "Trumpeter's" subs yet , but will look into those. I did pick up an Academy German Sub XIB (the instruction sheet calls it a IXB) yesterday at Hobby Lobby just because I saw it there and got it for 50% off. I'm not sure I want to build it for this campaign (if approved) but got it just in case. It's actually motorized, but I would build it for display only.

Still trying to decide what to build...

I plan on throwing the campaign title/name out there for voting (majority rule) in the next couple of days guys, so help me out with some suggestions....I'd like to have everyone involved in all aspects of this campaign...thanks again...

Hi Darryl...

Now that you have picked the Academy U-boat, please check the following models (for comparison) if you have the chance to (considering that this will be your first sub):
- From Trumpeter:
Kilo, Chinese Type 33 (copy of Russian Romeo) and Type 33G;
- Revell Monogram:
USS Lionfish (except for the wrong conning tower, the hull is good);
- Revell Germany:
Wilhelm Bauer (1960's modified Type XXI)
Type XXI (closed version)
Type 206 (1980's modern German sub)
- DML Dragon
The US Boomers
In my honest opinion, any of this subs are easy builds and great result makers - suitable to keep on this area

Just a little help,

Skipper

PS: for the name of the campaign I keep my previous sugestion: "Underwater Warriors"

Skipper,

Thanks for the added suggestions. I'm kind of a U.S. diehard right now, so I'd like to check out the Lionfish.

Is there an after market conning tower and/or a PE set that will make it (more) correct?

I also have your suggested campaign name on my working list...One or my personal favorites so far...

Well we have 11 particapents that have signed up so far! Thats a very good start guy's!
What do ya say we make this the largest salty campaign Armorama has ever had?
Submarines are much easier to build then , lets say a 1/350 battleship or aircraft carrier. So this is a good chance for some of you Armor and Aircraft modelers to try your hand at floaty things!
Great fun can be had by all! Sharing info and resources can realy help each other on the build. And I think that is what it is all about.
So give it some thought modelers, we would be glad to have you onboard!

Garry

Hi Darryl

Yes there is: Nautilus Models http://www.nautilusmodels.com/ have four conning tower sets in resin, plus a PE set...
Also a friend sub modeler (Rusty Sub) made the three different sails for Guppy Versions. There are not that perfect but are a good base to work on

Good day Rui !
I will let Darryl submit the campaign to headquarters.
This is Darryl's show, I'm just helping him out and trying to get the old ball rolling! Which I am more then happy to do. I'm glad to have you and your Submarine know how along on this operation!

Cheers,

Garry

Thanks Skipper,

I found the Lionfish on Squadrons site last night for just under $15...Looks like a good route to go now that I can correct the conning tower...

I'll post the suggested campaign names today if I get a chance...

After a name is determined, I'll go ahead and submit the campaign for approval...

Hi Garry!

Yes, you are absolutely right!
Darryl kicked the ball he has to score the goal

Regarding the submarine know how:
I am not an expert, this is just the result of a dozen of years digging in the same hole :-)
I can't tell you how many bolts are in a U-boot type VII-C

I use to "hunt them" (on exercises, I mean) when I was in the Navy and found out that they are really cool machines!!
Low profile, but cool
But thank you for the compliment,

Skipper
