Gentlemen,

I would like to presnt to you, the hand carved models of WWII Submarine Veteran, Frank Sennello, crewman of the USS Narwhal.

Frank has made numerous submarine models over the years and many currently reside in various museums across the country. They are constructed from wood, fir or redwood, or as he also put it, whatever he has on hand. The CTs are made of aluminum cans shaped around a wood form and the guns are empty ball point pen cartridges. Frank has built every class of submarine from the USS Holland to modern day nukes. After he sent me these photos, I asked if I could share them with all of you. So, here they are:

Frank's boat, the USS Narwhal

The USS Argonaut

The USS Gato

Hope that you enjoyed them as much as I did.

My grandfather was Captain of the first nuclear Submarine. He also served in WW2 on the USS Nashville which was kamikazied in layde gulf. He then helped scientists put a nuclear missle on a submare, later getting a letter from JFK to him personally stating that he helped change the history of warfare forever.

I know we like to think of ourselves as modelbuilders, but really the vast majority of us are kit assemblers. He is a true model builder

Steve, thanks for posting the pics.
This is truly amazing work. I would love to see more of his work if he would agree on posting them.

As a veteran, Frank deserves our respect for the sacrifices he made for the rest of us during the war, and as modelers he deserves our appreciation for the fine artpieces he created.

Maybe if possible you could persuade him to make or let someone set up a little how-to for the scratchbuilder's forum? I for sure would love to try this out myself, but I wouldn't know where to start.
