I guess by now most of you have heard that our "chief" sailor passed on....Garry Beebee. There is more info under the general modeling forum. We ship builders will really miss him. It is up to us to insure his legacy carries on. Lets make sure the Dreadnaught campaign is a big success, and it is up to all of us to push the Flattop campaign he set up goes through. I would like to propose that we name the flattop campaign in his honor.

I agree Steve. Garry loved the campaigns and he would have wanted us to finish both campaigns. Let's make something special of those campaigns!

I just found out, via email, of Garry's passing. I also posted on the general modeling forum my thoughts. I propose that we rename the Dreadnought campaign, if not the flattop campaign, the Garry Beebe memorial Campaign.

I can't remember exactly what I wrote on the general forum but I would like to share this memory of Garry. We once arranged a trade of models. When his package arrived it looked bigger than I thought it should. The reason was because Garry had thrown in another model for free, just because he figured I'd like it. That was the kind of guy Garry was and how I'll always remember him.

Garry, I know you were a ground pounder, but I know you loved the ships also. Anchors aweigh buddy.

I considered Gary a friend. He was a true gentleman, and was always there to help out the plebes, even at his own expense.

He will truly be missed by myself and everyone who had the honor of knowing him.

Calm winds and fair seas my friend...

Words fail to express my feelings.

Steve, I agree it would be a nice gesture to rename the flattops campaign in his remembrance, and to call all hands on deck to make the dreadnought campaign and flattops the most succesfull and famous campaigns ever!

Shipmates,

Gary was the reason I started building ships again. Now I HAVE to finish the DDD campaign entry before I deploy next friday. Here is my tribute to Garry for his unending words of encouragement. Here is my tribute to a real Shipmate:

For twenty years
This sailor has stood the watch

While some of us were in our bunks at night
This sailor stood the watch

While some of us were in school learning our trade
This shipmate stood the watch

Yes.. even before some of us were born into this world
This shipmate stood the watch

In those years when the storm clouds of war were seen brewing on the horizon of history
This shipmate stood the watch

Many times he would cast an eye ashore and see his family standing there
Needing his guidance and help

Needing that hand to hold during those hard times
But he still stood the watch

He stood the watch for twenty years
He stood the watch so that we, our families and
Our fellow countrymen could sleep soundly in safety, Each and every night
Knowing that a sailor stood the watch

Today we are here to say
'Shipmate... the watch stands relieved

Relieved by those You have trained ,Guided, and Lead
Shipmate you stand relieved.. we have the watch..."

"Boatswain..Standby to pipe the side...Shipmate's going Ashore.."

Fair Winds and Following Seas my friend, my Shipmate.

Aye, Garry is one of the reasons I am getting back into ship modelling. His kind and thoughtful encouragement will be missed. It is a fitting tribute to name the campaign in his honor.
