Hi all,

I know this is a stupid question but I need to know what the thing on the front of the uboat is (where the cable that comes from the tower is connected to)

I guess it's ment to protect the uboat for something, cables or netting maybe....but I would like to know how you call it and what it's for.

Thanks,
Martin

its a netcutter if the boat got caught in a a/s net the idea was that by going forward the boat would cut itself free. the germans removed them early in the war ,it aslo was a ploy to make the rn think its harbours werent safe from attack

Has David mentioned it's a net cutter..
It had two distinctive parts: the upper one with the "tripod" kind of structure and another cutter just bellow the forward torpedo tubes edge... I have noticed that the version that you are building doesn't have the saw like part near the torpedo tubes doors...

I think that this part isn't included in the revell model, but I think that the WEM PE set has it - I cannot verify this because I am at work - not at home - I'll tell you something during the evening Martin

Rui,

The Revell kit does have this part, but I haven't reached that step in the instructions yet :-)

Cheers,.

That part gives an agressive look to the boat - even if it doesn't work propely

Will you use those parts on your built?

Yes, both "saws" will be used on my uboat. There are two versions you can build with these saws, the other versions are late-war boats without the saws.

I thought the saws looked cool, dangerous and indeed agressive.....I wanted to have them on my boat as well!

Martinn:

I did the cutter version as well (See my gallery, or thumb through the posts on the ship forum). You may have to drill a tiny hole in the top rear to attatch the cable to it.
