I posted some time back regarding the availability of after market hull numbers. Now I'm back with pretty much the same problem.

I measured the numbers for the swift boat (I said they were 1/72nd...nope 1/48th) and found that all numbers above "1" are 1/4 inch in width and and a little over 3/8ths in height. Anyone know of a decal sheet that would have various sizes to include some close to that?

All I need are six "3s". I can come up with the sixes by inverting the nines......( boy that made sense....am I in Vegas?)

Thanks as always
Steve

Steve:

Don't know of any sheets off hand.. I know there are some sites though that show the numbers that you can print and your own stencils if the numbers are big enough.. the link below may help you out there..

http://hans.presto.tripod.com/fonts/stencil2.html

If not I noticed you said you had the 9's covered by using inverted 6's...

If you had some 8's you can get the 3's by cutting the 8's in half??

Hope this helps

Hi Steve!

I am sorry, but appears I missed the first one
Regarding the decals with USNavy Style numbers, I know that White Ensign Models use to have a decal sheet with 1/350 and one with bigger scale number (several sizes) up to 1/96 scale...
Don't remember the maker, though.

Give it a try

Paul,

No I don't have 8s, I wish I did because I would have tried that. I have numbers for the "10 Boat" and "49 Boat" My father in law's was the "36 boat" and the "44 boat"...and he wants the the 36....

I'll check out the web site you suggested. If the have something that works I could always copy the numbers, run them Adobe photoshop, and print them off on the Alps printer at the university....

Skipper, I'll see if I can contact WEM and ask if they still have that decal sheet. Either way, I'll come up with something that will work...I need to have this thing finished by Father's Day......

Thanks guys
Steve

Hmmmmm That's a thought. Do they have any that look really-really close to Navy hull numbers? I know he plans to tote it to the next Swiftie reunion...I want it to be perfect..or as close as I am capable.

If the numbers look wrong, they'll say something.

Keep in mind...I live out here in the sticks.

check with the guys on the modelwarships board. Don't know about size diferences, but maybe an old Missouri kit by revell might have the right size...she was "63" or check for 35th scale numbers from Archer the all white ones just don't go for bumper numbers

Steve, I have my swift boat decal sheet in my hand....
if you turn the 9 over, your black shadow will be on the upper left, instead of the lower right of the number, unless you are planning to trim it off, and hand paint it correctly.
I'm not going to use the 94's, if and when I build the kit....
so if you PM me your address, I'll send them to you....
Why don't you just contact Revell/Monogram and get a second decal sheet?
