These are what remain of the kits that I've been working on since the start of this campaign. I doubt I'll have them finished, but a few of them, such as the Kilo, Improved 688, and Alfa are ready for paint. Since they will have a minimal amount of weathering applied to them, they might be finished by the end. The two Ohio class boats, require touch up filling and sanding then re-primed and the Typhoon needs filling and sanding then primed.

Anyway, I thought I would share how they were coming along.

Have a safe and happy weekend.

Subs not being my poison of choice, I can't comemnt on accuracy. But I can tell you that I like the look of them.

Henk,

Your guess is a s good as mine as far accuracy goes. The only modifications made to the Ohios was the removal of the rings along the hull. The 688 on the other hand, I removed the rings, shaved down the top of the sail, added countermeasures pods aft, new dive planes and all with the help of Tom Hathaway and Skipper, plus using Tom's 688 sort as a template. The Typhoon and Alfa, straight out of the box.

The Nautilus looking sub....well, it's what ever you want it to be.

Most of my time was spent on the Gato and the Lil' VIIIC.

I'm glad you like the looks of them. So do I. I think I like the Kilo and the Typhoon the most. Then the Ohios.

Thanks again!
Have a safe and happy weekend!

David,
That one is suppose to be Nautilus. However, it's one of those old Revell kits that was made back when "If it has the basic shape that's good enough." So really, it's a mixture of several classes of subs as far as I can tell. TO make it accurate would take more talent than I can muster. :-) :-)

Take care
Steve

They are looking good Steven! You broke down and got the Kilo hmmmmmmm. You just might squeek them in in time if you can mask and pait them all. Just one word of warning about painting the Kilo, the waterline is much higher then the painting instructions show. You will have to raise the line above the hull lines they show you by about 3/4 of an inch. I cant wait to see them done on the last day of the Campaign. I hope all of them are destined for your library display.

Scott,

Hey thanks for the comments! I think I'll have the Kilo, the 688, an Ohio and maybe the Alfa finished by the end of the campaign, but I doubt I can finish the rest of them by then. I'm doing my level best not to get in a hurry, but with the campaign closing soon and my excitement to see what one will look like when finished (which is my greatest downfall with models) I've been making mistakes that's costing me. I was so caught up in the building of the typhoon and wanting to get it primed , that I forgot to add the backing behind the dive plane slots and now I have these huge openings. The hull halves had dried before I realized it. I'm still irked with myself over that.

Yeppers! they're all heading to the library display along with the Gato and Lil' VIIC. However, I think I'll leave the Nautilus-ish one at home.

Thanks for the heads up on the Kilo. I'll remember that when I start the painting.

Thanks again for you kind words.
Take care and have a safe weekend.

Hi Elad,
Sure, the Ohios, 688, Alpha, and Typhoon are all 1/350th scale from DML/Dragon. The Kilo is the 1/144th kit from Trumpeter.

The Nautilus, is a Revell box scale...I'm not sure what it really works out to.

Best wishes
Steve

Yeah I know! I'm always blown away by the difference in sizes. What's even more amazing is comparing both the Los Angeles class and the Alfa to the Typhoon. They're like canoes! :-)
Being landlocked I've had the chance to see only a handful of ships. (and that while in the military) To me they were huge! However, imagine my expression when I learned that they were rather small in comparison to others. It's always neat to stick a scale figure on the decks of them just to get an idea of their size. Otherwise, I'd have no clue how big they can be.

Take care
Steve

They sure look great all sitting together. That appeals to my greatest weakness.......a COLLECTION !!!! I've got a collection of sorts. I bought a bunch of those little 400 scale Mirage U-boats. I have a type I, type VII c, Type VII with wintergarten, Type IX c, Type IXc wit wintergarten, and a Type IX d. At an average price of $6 it was cheap. Kits looked good and I took some small leftover railings from other PE kits. What I wish for is a 350 scale Type VII c and Type IX c to go with my big ship collection of BB's and CV's
