Hi all

Things are running a little slow here, so I just poped this:
What's in your workbench?

I know Dreadnoughts is starting real soon, but you must be doing something, right?
I am finishing the Marder (manned torpedo) - intended to be built for DDD!
Pics will follow tomorrow

Also my "little informer" said that Steven Arthur is "attacking" a Swift Boat
(gotcha Steve)

Hi David!

There's not that really much rigging needed for the Ko-Hyoteki...
What's your problem? Need help?

I finished a Revell pt-109, and put it on a nice base with heavenly blueish water, painted the lot the same evening, and woke up nex morning finding my base warped beyond belief, my pt boat pitching her bow in the air like a toy speedboat , and all the plaster cracked beyond repair... and her hull has become a disaster due to pieces of glued and painted plaster, sealed with varnish...

now I have to scrub off all the paint from the hull, try to match the paintjob on the deck again, redo the camopattern on the hull, remake the base...
bwwweeeuuukk.... don' t feel like it anymore. fun is over... she'll probably wind up as a target for my airgun.

A MESS.

I'm still slowly working in the Kilo. I shot the gray on the sonar dome and have been toying with the idea of shooting more gray on the top above the tubes as well. (I found a photo with both areas painted as gray) I dug out the 1/72 MkIV Female tank...I need to finish for MM campaign. I'm part way finished with a 1/48th B-25. I worked a little bit more on my Apollo astronaut (photos in figures forum) and I have been thinking of finishing my 1/48th B-1 and 1/48th B-29.

Hi David!

It looks good! Regarding the screw/propeler they should be black, but you can simulate some wear of the paint on the edges...

Yo, skipper, im currently building a 1/350 Missouri battleship from Tamiya. I painted the red hull part today and removed all those annoying mold lines from the bow, stern and bottom sections with my only tool that i use in building my models, those are my nail clippers, hehe. Too i cant post any pics on this site, because i dont have a website of my own.

You don't need to have a website...

That KGV would be a good entry for Dreadnoughts Campaign if it wasn't started already - any pics?

Just finished my 3/4 ton Dodge ambulance for the medics campaign, currently finishing up some Soviet tank-ride figures to go on my T-34/76 kibash. In intervening time until start of campaign will probably either work on a M151 "Viet Nam"era jeep or an old, old old KI45 Toryu "Nick" twin engined night fighter--48th scale

Skipper,

I did start it already... I have gotten the opportunity to attend the University of Hawaii for a semester (spring 2006). And I would have liked it to be finished before then... and looking at my build speed (especially when classes are in session) I decided to start it a little while ago...

I hope today I can pick up some extra parts and then finish construction in the next few weeks.

I would have liked to enter the ship indeed...

A great opportunity to go to Oahu Island and visit Pearl Harbour and the Arizona Memorial (give it a thought)

Been working on the Trumpeter Lexington. Anyone else running into lots of fit problems? Not to mention sink holes and pin marks everywhere.

...........

Well.....I'm glad you asked skipper
I will "assume" that your query is more focused on 'what' we all have on our "Warship" Bench ?........Correct? Based upon that assumption, I will throw my Farthing on the table.........

Contrary {potentially}, to opinion's floating around these parts, I have not been idle in my efforts. Especially modeling-wise.....
In fact, strangly enough, the vast majority of my 'scratching' endeavours have been focused on what one would call "wet" subject matter.....

Very quickly, I have continued work on my unpopular Ironclad ship, the Choctaw......the main armature, or 'core' substructure has been constructed and the cladding of the exterior surface has been accomplished for the most part. That is; 'sans' just a few small touches that I am still attaching to the main structure. There are still a handful of minor aditions needed before I start the next phase of combining all of the primary elements together to create the body of work that all of the ancillary pieces are attached to....
I will do my best to try to post photo's of my progress so that those interested can hopefully enjoy, and at the same time provide proof of my meager progress.......

Tread.

Why would you say that? I for one have been sitting here wondering when you would post some more photos of it along with the Tango.

Tread, I don't know what someone has said to you, but I'm asking...please post some more photos of both. I was looking at some photos of some Ironclads the other day and you were the first person I thought of.

PLEASE?????

Fujimi's Chikuma with deck decals:

NOTE: I just edited this post with my latest photos--already removed original "in-progress" shots.

I replaced the 20cm main battery with Skywave's Heavy set, and added the 9m motor launches.

The decals worked well. Amazing how well they lines up over the deck details. However, they were to tight around the barbettes and overlap the bulkheads. Originally I used the Micro Scale system. Micro Sol crinkles the decals irrepairably. But Solvaset over decals applied over Micro Set settled great.

The deck brass bands are excellent!

Last night I checked Hobby Link Japan and this kit is out of stock. Overall, it is still a reissued old kit with sinkholes and mold marks, fair detail and some fit problems. I think the decals are nice but think they are not much a work saver over painting--except for the brass bands.

Yes Gordon - that was my meaning :-)
Glad your Ironclad project is running ok!
It's very rare to see a Ironclad Model, and this one (actually two - if memory serves me well) being scratchbuilt in a big scale, will be more impressive - and I am looking forward to see the end result

As Steven Arthur so well mentioned, post some pics of the Ironclads and of your Tango Project too (please)

Keep up the good work Gordon

Hi Fred
Your Chikuma looks great!
Did you use Gunze Paints or WEM colour coats?
The Deck brass bands make all the difference!

Are you going to make a water dio?
Thanks for posting

Hi Skipper,

Thank you! I am preparing to do a review of the kit, if you would like. I didn't plan to so these are the only "under assembly" pix, but today I shot the box art, and it ought to be ready in a few days.

I painted it with Model Master's new acrylic IJN colors, using WEM's book on IJN ships' colors as a guide.

Yes, those bands really make the difference between a deck, and an HIJMS deck! Fine paint brushes and brass colored pencil just can't hack it!

Finished pix ASAP!
