OK Gentlemen,
I have BB39 ready for a serious construction phase. Everything is cleaned and sub-assemblies are..assembled. Now, a salvo of questions.
1) I do not have the PE set yet and more than likely will not have them before the middle of next month. The end of this month..maybe. I was thinking of going ahead of painting the hull, deck, and superstructure, then add the PE after it's shaped and painted and doing so from the deck, up. Does this like a sound plan?
2) If it were you, would you paint the superstructure and fittings first, then mask what I can, paint the deck and then go back a touch up from the deck spraying...or vise -versa?

Ok..this is far cry from a salvo, but for some reason I forgot what else I planned to ask. It'll come to me again...and then I'll be back.

Skipper there's bugs in my corn mush.......

Hi Steve,

It's largly a matter of personal preferance. I always assemble and paint the hull starting with the lower hull, boot top then upper hull color. Once that's done I mount the hull on a "work base" and paint the deck. Then I go back and paint the details and any bulkheads whatever color they need to be with a brush. I never mask. I always put the pe railings on last starting with the upperworks. If it's posible I put the rails on all the sub assemblies then build them up as I need them. The main deck rails always go on last because I've found that working from the top up you can't screw up railings by setting your pinkie on them for stability.

Hi Mike,
I like that order of construction and painting. I think I'll give it a try on this one. Thanks for the advice, I do appreciate it.

Wish me luck

Hi Steve!

Mike gave you good tips!
Making the PE right on the subassemblies is the one that is more precious, just followed by the main deck railling for last!

The bugs on your mush are the vitamins and proteins you need to keep healthy

Hi Graham

With a 50% change of mistake

She's very impressive anyway. I have a 1/700 Prince of Wales on the way to me for the Dreadnoughts campaign, I shall have to look at this model for inspiration!

It's possible I may get my hands on a 1/350 HMS Dreadnaught for this campaign-not sure yet
