Well yes, Steve, we do...the design was originally one of Gary's ideas and I felt it fitting to stick with it...it is in the gallery but I'll put her up here to make it easier...

Why not use the old Asiatic -Pacific campaign ribbon from WW2. We've used the Nam ribbon and the American Defense ribbon. Just modify it a bit just in case there is possibly some law Can't think of ay as it is not copyrighted and it is now legal to own , sell, and collect all US medals (except M.O.H. which was legal until mid 1990's)

Which sort of bothers me, there's enough PX heroes out there as it is.

I guess you could ay I'm a collector though I haven't bought any in 10 years. I' also collected foreign as well. Have a complete collection of the Brtish WW2 stars as well as almost all the US campaigns dating back to Civil War. SOme are real, some are recasts. While it was legal I also procurred all 3 of the MOH's, though I never ever put one aroud my neck,,,,not even to see how it looked. I also collect the unit crests (called DI's for Distinctive Insignia) There are also folks who collect the unit patches. Pretty big hobby all this, usually seen at large gunshows here in Dallas.

Greeting's, Steve...
Are you any good with graphics, mate? If so, why don't you expand on your idea and come up with something...I like your base idea, Bro...

Hey Gunny....now I feel like I'm on an episode of "Mail Call"....how about this. Take a black sihlouette of a Nimitiz class carrier and superimpose a white sihlouette of the Langley (CV-1) inside it. That way we got from the start to now.

Gunny, I wish I were, but sadly it's a miracle I can even get my pictures posted in a thread. I'm betting though the US campaign ribbons can be pulled up on a web site, probably the medals too. I have a poster issued by the DOD that shows all the medals at the time and in their heirarchy. I would lay it out on the floor and put the medals I have in my collection on the respective photo.

:-) ...I get this all the time, Bro...I was given this nickname by my Dad when I was very young(as he was a Gunnery Sargeant in the U.S. marines), but I think Sgt. Ermey has a few years on me!...anyway's, that's also a good idea...like I asked Steve in a previous post, do you have any graphics skills?...if so, show me what you can do with this idea...

I hear ya' Steve...some of the graphics that are done by computer totally amaze me, and unfortunately I don't have much of these skills myself...

Hi all
This is the result of some ideas proposed here...Thanks Subhunter

Still have to work more on it, in order to give some volume/texture/shinning (don't know yet) but something is needed to make this by 50x20 to have impact

The proportion between CV-1 USS Langley and CV-68 USS Nimitz are correct

Comments are welcome (as usual)

Yes Steve!
The Nimitz is massive!! This is the question :-)
And wide wise the difference is even more impressive!!
It looks like a shoebox on a sand pit!

I have to think about this, because all the tests that I have done, the Langley just disapear... (if you think that the award will be as big as the edit button on this page - you can see why)
Well - the trick is not to give up

I love the idea but do they both have to be American? After all the British started the whole thing. (At least as far as actual carriers, though the Americans first took off from a ship.) How about a HMS Argus?

Yes I can, at that size the Langley would appear as a white speck.....hmmm.
I'm not sure what to suggest, and in all reality, I was thinking of naval aviator wings to begin with...and something with a carrier.
Well...my creative juices are tapped out....so I'll be most content to be a spectator. :-) :-)

Hi Rodger
It doens't have to be US - this was just a test

The HMS Argus silluette is a good award for Flattops

Perhaps just a distinctive silloute would be great (silver or golden) - Have to try it!
Thanks for bringing it - as usual, your inputs are excellent!!!
Steve,
The Naval Aviator wings is also a good idea - so, you are not really an expectator :-) You are an important contributor
Over and out

Hey guys...boy Rui, that looks great! Yeah, the Langley does look smaller tha the Nimitz. Read a report of a WW2 USN pilot that went from an escort carrier to an Essex class. He asked the air boss if he wanted him to land on the right or left runway. Just had an idea

. I remember seeing an early USN carrier patch that had the sihlouette of the carrier from head on. Try that with the Nimitz and place the British carrier in profile crossing over it. Or...better idea

...do something on the line of the the carrier image on the Blue angels patch. I wish that I had brought my clipart cds when I evacuated from Hurricane Rita. Oh well. Another idea...

...use the aviator wings with a head on sihlouette of the super carrier. When I get on a roll...I'm a commercial artist by trade.
