Hi Mark,
I'm planning on undertaking the biggest modelling project in the 30 years I've been at this. I'm building the 350 scale Hornet (waterline), the day before the raid, I've got the B-25's and the Wildcats, I've got Devestators and Dauntless TB, but am unsure of which ones where carried aboard. I've got limited reference, and will have to rely on you experts. What sets this one apart for me, is the amount of PE I've acquired over the last couple of years. At least 6 White Ensign Model sets, I'll keep a running photo library, now possible that I've signed on as a member of the 'A' guard....can't wait to start (first I've got to finish my HMS Dreadnought)
Frank
Frank,
Hornet's airgroup was carried in the hangar during the raid - at least while the B-25s were on the deck. Four Wildcats were spotted forward, in case they had to be catapulted off. Interestingly, I was watching Task Force Films USS Hornet DVD last night, and film shot before the Mitchells were launched shows an SBD Dauntless warming up ON the deck, parked just forward of a B-25.
FYI - if Japanese carriers had been encountered enroute, the plan was to push the B-25s into the drink so Hornet could launch her planes.
So, as was mentioned earlier, you could open the hangar doors on your Hornet and place some aicraft on the hangar deck.
Good luck!

Ahoy!!!
it has been months since my last campaign entry here at armorama and looking forward for another great campaign such is this one.
My original plan didnt change. I will build 1/350 USS Enterprise. It's not tamiya but rather a copy cat version made by old trumpeter. Good it for a good bargain (more than half than tamiya's) in 2001 and been hiding in the box since then.
Got the tamiya 1/350 aircraft set.
I've assembled the 'island' sometime ago but some of the part suffered battle damage when i moved to the new house.
Sp now i've to figure out where to build this giant and where to display when it's finished..
good luck mates on this exciting campaign...............

I'll do a Japan Carrier Deck diorama with a base from Eduard and Fine Mold's D4Y Judy. Scale will be 1/48...

My original intention was to do Trumpeters 1/700 Kuznetsov and I may still do that, though WEM tell me that the etched set is unlikely to be out until mid March. If, and it's a big if, Trumpeter release the 1/700 Nimitz in time I would love to do that! At the moment I'm working on my first ship Trumpeter's 1/700 USS Franklin and I'm really enjoying it!

Greetin's, howdys and ahoy's ta ya'alls! Just got back from the "Big Sandbox" this week and really excited about the campaign.

My plan is to build the Trumpeter 1/350 Kuznetsov. I ordered it while I was deployed and when I finally got to see it, it's kinda overwhelming. This will fer'sures be the biggest project I've attempted in years (not counting my Dad's HO Railroad Layout, lol). SWMBO has already told me that I have to give her a schedule of when I plan on working on it cause she says she doesn't want to be anywhere near me during the build.

Can't figure out that one at all

Oh well, were seperated for six months and I guess we can go another six, LMAO

But seriously, I look forward to talking to ya'all and following everyones progress.

Hi all,
I Intend to build a Italeri John C. Stennis, 1/720.
To begin, I only need to find one of the rudders, that don't know where I put.

OOPSI ordered this kit:

Dutch light aircraft carrier "Karel Doorman". The kit is based on Heller's Arromanches kit and features:
Resin:
6x Grumman Tracker
2x Sikorsky S 58
Angled deck
New command tower/bridge
Several small things
Photo Etch:
Parts of the aircraft
Radar and antennas
Several other things
And.....
Dutch Decal set
Plastic parts for new AA guns and other details
I also spotted some 1/400 Preiser figs, I hope I can lay my hands on one of those to give my ship some more life. Also planning on a diorama/base for this ship instead of a "dry" full hull model.
This is probably one of the rarest aircraft carrier models around with limited numbers made as well so this should be an interesting build and models to have in my collection (of course also because it's Dutch hehe)

Was planning on doing the Enterprise and Hornet, but me thinks I'll do the 1944 Sara instead.

Sounds great, Ken! I'm going for the USS Saipan, something a little different (I've got to keep steady with my Marines heritage!). I found an older DML version of the ship, still waiting for my PE to show up from Gold Medal...FOUR MORE DAYS!!!!! WOOO-HOOO!!!!!

I will. I just paid for it so I hope I'll receive the kit soon. Maybe something nice for a feature?

How did you get so much salt water in your veins Lil' Bro? Careful, Rui will have you turning in your tanker's helmet for a sailors cap

Martin...
I think that this build of yours would make for a fantastic feature! Please do so! We need more of this type of feature articles not only at the warship section but at the site as a whole.

Nothing has changed, I still plan to build Heller's Clemenceau or Foch. I have both. I just need to latch onto some birdies for the flight deck.

I’ll still be doing the Hornet as she was during midway.
But I might have to wait a week or 2 start now. But I still can’t wait.

I have my Lexington set out, all the goodies are in the box as well as pages of reference photo's. I'll start sometime soon as I am still working on my Panzer IV -H which is just for me. I still have camoflage painting then adding all the tools and a lot of weathering, but it should take less tha a week, so I should be beginning the aircraft pretty soon. PLan to try to convert Dauntlass' and Wildcats to Vindicators and Buffaloes respectivly. I have some examples to use as I got a set of Vindicators and Buffaloes from Iron Shipwrights.. The it'll be rock and roll time as I plan to also squeeze in a Patton Tank before June for the Patton Campaign......he did after all attend VMI one year prior to West Point.
