You have a problem here.

Ok, here is a possible solution. If you have them, or you can buy them rather cheap at any Dollar General store. Buy some of those Rubber Maid plastic containers, the real little round ones they use to put snacks in for babies. put some water in them and set them aside. Either with a cotton swab or an eyedropper, re-wet one decal, one at a time, with a solution of water and and a little bit of decal solvent.(to soften them)THIS WILL MAKE THEM VERY FRAGILE SO TAKE GREAT CARE HERE. Remove them and place each one in its own container and as flat as possible. Once this is done, wipe down the Kilo to remove any residual decal....goop. (techinical term) Shoot either clear gloss or future onto the Kilo and allow to dry at 48 hrs...the longer the better. Re-apply your decals and add a little more solvent so they'll settle and less chance of silvering. Aloow to dry for at least three days. Then shoot the whole thing with dull coat. The result, a nice semi-gloss that can be further dulled as you wish.

The other option, write or e-mail Trumpter to see if you can purchase another set of decals. However, this time, add the gloss before applying them and then follow with a dull coat....and there you have it.

Now, go forth, build, and sin no more.

Hope this will help

Hello Rigger,

I see you have a dilema! I would follow Steven's instructions
on the removal of the messed up decals and continue to
refinish the paint job.

In the meantime e-mail me your mailing address and I
will send you a set of decals from my Kilo sub that's in
my stash. When I'm ready to build my Kilo, I will just
airbrush the circles and the lines.

After having examined the decals, there is a possibilty that
they are of inferior quality; the film looks very lumpy. Try
them out and let me now how it goes.

Hope this is of some help.
Have a nice day and happy modelling,

Sounds to me like you did do a good initial procedure. Sometimes it is just bad decal design. I have done all the future and micro sol / set and an after spray of dull coat and still had some silvering. You could try to cut / trim away any of the clear decal as this is where the silvering really shows

Or even better yet! Take Joe up on his offer, you can't beat that with a stick! But again, make sure you have at least a semi-gloss surface for the decals. Flat coats on the microscopic lever are rough enough to leave pockets of air that causes the silvering...no matter how much solva-set you use. I have an F4C I keep around as reminder of that.

Take care Mitch

Steve

Great gesture Joe!

Good to see you again Bro! (so to speak)

Hi Steve,
All is well up here and nice to see your back.

By the way added a few more pics of the Turm IV 1:125 scale
tower.
Must work a little faster; couple of shows coming up in
Feb. & March 2006.
Scratchbuilding is great but man does it take up time
especially the research.
Will post more pics of the tower soon.
By for now.
Have a nice day and happy modelling!

Joe
