Thats a FUSO Class battleship. It looks like someone didn't like the level of detail that came with the Aoshima kit. That seems to be a very popular ship with folks on the modelwarship site. It seems to be on everyone's top 10 list for 350 scale. Have to admit that pagoda mast super-detailed does bring out a desire in me to build it too.

A friend of mine, who has forgotten more about naval history than I'll ever know, claims the Fuso class is the ugliest capital ship ever built. I tend to agree with him on this statement. If that modeler can make a silks purse out of that sow's ear imagine what they could do with a ship that was good looking to begin with.

Hmmm it's a "terryble" way of making a Fuso, but it will be a jewel - thanks for sharing this Benjamin

I have to agree/disagree with Rodger on the Fuso "beauty"
It's like the Fairchild A-10 - it's so ugly that you have top love it

You can grow a real dislike for some people, can't you?

Incredible work! Wish I knew how he was doing half of it. Especially marking and curving.

I have a 1/72 pile of junk (ex Matchbox Corvette) that I'd love to rebuild some day. currently it is a hull with a deck on it.

I think the Fuso's looks were it's best defense. Any enemy that ever got within sight of her would laugh themselves to death. :-) That's why she was sunk at night.

And to think that I can't even scratch my head that well. :-) Any idea how long it's taken to get this far in the build?

Both the Fuso and Yamashiro (sister) were sunk at Suriago Straits in the big battleship to battleship battle in 1944. I don't know why the guy hand built the hull I guess there were several innaccuracies. He did take the trouble to cut the turret rings out. I built these kits back in early 70's, of course back then I built ALL the Japanese BB's, CV, and HC kits available as well as a dozen or so of the DD and subs. Had myself a regular fleet I did. I know they have made some mighty fine resin kits in 700 and I wonder why he didn't get one of those and just super detail it. Oh well, I certainly enjoyed lookng at the oictres of everything he did to upgrade it once again absolutely magnificent.
