Excellent job Steve! I have always loved this class of ship and the colorful pre-war scheme the Navy had for sections, squadrons and groups. The Navy of the late 1930's really was an adventure!

This is a great build of a classic subject!

Bravo Zulu!

Thanks for everyone's comments. I am hoping to eventually replace the aircraft. As Trumpeter is doing an early Saratoga, I am hoping they will do some more aircraft like the Vindy or Buff. I had to make do with the limited red-dot stars available as well as no side markings. I had to show the side by side with theNimitz. I was surprised when I put the airwing on that the deck wasn't wide enough for two abreast. We've come a long way baby.

Wow, very different than usual! Love those colors and the incredible detail painted on the aircraft.

Congratulations.

Blaster,

congrats on a job well done....

Just looking at the last pick, it surprised me how big the ship is, yet how much smaller it is then a modern carrier (I guess it is 1/350 Nimitz?)....

Looking forward to your next model,

Harm

Yes that's the Trumpeter 350 scale Nimitz which is still my all time favorite built model. I loved the airwing. Trumpeter had incredible decals for each and every aircraft. This is my 3rd Trumpeter A/C kit. Istill have the Hornet left, so don't dispair. I have found in every case they were straight forward builds and the aircraft were exquisite with super teeny tiny markings. Of course the aricraft for the Lex were not done the way the kithadplanned them which means they arents quite to how I would have preferred. I highly recomment=d any the the Trumpeter Aircraft carriers, and I would bet that the Hood will be equally great.

Steve great article. I've a question, what yellow paint did you use for the aircraft and the deck? I've tried spraying Model Master insignia yellow for both and it's not coverering worth a darn.

through the airbrush ---model masters insignia yellow enamel, but it took several light coats. I would spray it down the deck, by the time I reached the end I would go back to where i started and do it again. As to the planes, they are all hand painted.
