Although I've been modeling for sometime, I'm not really a shipbuilder but I always want to try something new. So as a first time build I did this kit from Dragon which is a 1/700 scale of the Ticonderoga class of Aegis cruisers. This kit was almost basically built OOB. The kit actually have five options for the name of the ship but I chose Ticonderoga as it was the first of it's class & since this is my first ship build I thought that it was just fitting . Comments are welcome.

Hi Alex, and Welcome to Model Shipwrights mate!
Nice job for your first attempt at ships! What do you think, are you a convert over to the salty side?? Better be careful, cause shipbuilding is Very addicting! Look around our new home here, mate, maybe you'll become a permanent crewmember!

Nice job. I like what you did with the helicopter. Nice touch.

I still can't get used to cruisers named after anything but cities. Ticonderoga should be a carrier, not a cruiser. (sigh)

A friend of mine and I were talking at work the other day. He told me of how when the Aegis class were first coming on line one of them had their entire computer system go blue screen. I'm not sure how much truth there was to it, but it made a good story.

Hey Alex, really nice job. Especially like the Seahawk in motion. Like Gunny says, "Welcome to the salty side of life!"

Welcome Alex! Yeah, it is a nice job for the first time at a ship! Yeppers, you'd better watch out, this ship stuff gets into your blood and it's hard to stay away once you've been infected. Again, welcome.

Yeah but Roger, don't you love that name? I tried to get my wife to let me name our first son ..well and second, Ticonderoga....yeah, well you can guess where that went. I guess I'll name a dog that Although, I want an English Bull Dog and name him Wellington...Or..MAYBE...NELSON! huh? huh?

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I have always wanted to do a ship model. I have been contemplating on doing the Tamiya USS New Jersey for sometime now but my lack of experience in doing a ship build somehow kept me from doing it. This is also some kind of a change for me since I usually do armor. Who knows I might just get hooked to the salty side of life.

I had a cat once I named Agamemnon. It was female and when my future wife found out Agamemnon was a male king she gave me a hard time about it. I explained that I named her after Nelson's favorite ship, HMS Agamemnon, and that since ships were female it made perfect sense. I'm not sure she ever bought that one. Later I had a cat that had three kittens while I was watching one of my favorite movies. I named them Captain, Horatio, and Hornblower. They must have picked up a bit of the nautical theme as they were three little pirates, getting in more mischief than a fleet of puppies.

Hey, Alex!
Listen, mate, don't be afraid to ask questions here, my friend! We're a great bunch of guys over here, all willing to help anytime we can! There is ALOT of knowledge and experience "lurking in these murky depths" of MSW, so if you ever need any help on a ship build, just give a shout...don't ever worry about lack of experience either, mate, because if you think about it, that's what makes this hobby that we all love so interesting...no matter what you know, there's always someone that has a different way (and often better!) of achieving the results that you're trying to achieve, and
willing to share the methods and teach others...and luckily we have a website such as this so that we can all share our thoughts and experiences...Keep modeling!
~Gunny

And Steve, Hmmm....Ticonderoga Arthur...I like it, mate!

So, in regards to the New Jersey , it's not a matter of contemplation anymore, it's a matter of just doing it. You've already taken that step off the plank, now you just swim with the rest of us. You'll enjoy it here. Like Mark said, there are number of very talented people who lurk in these waters and there are just as many whom like you and I, are learning the nautical trade. Folks here will always be helpful...you'll see.

So, jump in with both feet, no-one will let you drown here. And no-one will lead you astray. Rui runs a tight ship.........."aye Skip?"

Nice build, Alex. Congratulations, I hope I will be as successful as you have been in my first plastic ship model... Guess what.. Mine is Ticonderoga, as well, the only differnce is the scale-mine is 1/350.

Hi Alex

Your Tico looks good, you managed to make a clean built and a subtle weathering
IMHO I just would give it a coat of flat varnish to make it completely dull
I like the Seahawk hovering

As Steven Arthur said - go and make it!
If you'll need any help, the crew will help for sure

Welcome aboard - and once you're in you'll never get out

I've a got a 350 scale Tico as well as New Jersey. I'll get around to them one day if I can get off the Carrier hook (Still have the Hornet in the stash). Right now I'm back into tanks (see you can still do both !!)
