I've been looking around on the web and couldn't find a definitive answer so I thought I'd ask here. What is the correct color for a Soviet Hotel Class submarine? I have the Zvezda K-19 I picked up this weekend, put it together and am now looking into what colors are correct. Any help is appreciated!

Ahoy, Maurice!

Personally, I've only seen B&W photo's of the Hotel Class submarines, (aside from the Harrison Ford flick! )but I have seen a color shot or two of the Soviet November Class, which basically is the same sub minus the ballistic missile compartment, and it was your basic submarine flat black. . .not very exciting, but very utilitarian, I would say!

I was wondering if it was a flat black because all pictures I've seen of Soviet subs they appeared to be that color. The directions call for two different grey colors and red for the lower half of the hull. Wasn't sure if this was correct, maybe the lower half may still be red but the upper half didn't seem like it would be grey.

Maurice,
What color number (and which manufacturer) do the instructions list, mate? Let's see if we can de-code this one!

Doesn't list a paint number, just gives a plain color name. Says simply "dark grey", "medium grey" etc.

Another question, the screws are brass on Soviet subs too correct? Figured they must be but wanted to check.

Nice, that's the kit! Wow, comes out looking pretty nice. Now I'll have some great reference pics to go from, probably won't get to paint it until later this week or weekened but I'll get it primed tonight. Thanks for the help!

Haven't done a sub since I was a kid, so I couldn't pass up on this one this weekend. Figured it'd be a fast build and it was a very quick build. Subs are awesome kits to do when you want to bang out a fast kit, also a nice break from armor especially the tracks.

Maurice,

Try this, it's all in Russian, well, in Cyrillic, but they have a gallery of photos of every class of Soviet/ Russian submarine and the majority are in color.

later edit

This will be easier, here is the gallery page:

Yea, those ship kits are pretty sweet which is why I couldn't resist and went back yesterday and picked up the Hood. Keith said not to worry, he'll order another one in for you but it might not be in for the big sale. lol

I really like the big VIIC, Linda on the other hand didn't like the size of it. lol I still may grab it, either that or the next smaller sized one which I think I've seen at Hobby Lobby.
