Hi Shipmates

The year 2006 is rapidly drawing to a conclusion and I will get in first with the reflections for this year.

What were my biggest achievements this year in this hobby?

I was lucky that I did a double act this year on the same model. First I did my first ship model and secondly I actually finished a model. The later a small miracle in itself I can tell you.

The other great achievement was that I got introduced to the world of ship modelling and the great folks here.

As a result my modelling "mojo" is returning. LOL

All as a result of some very fine ship modellers right here on this forum.

The enthusiam and dedication around here is genuinely intoxicating at times.

How about you fellow shipmates?

What new models, old models or techniques did you achieve this year?

Regards

Sean

2006 was my great year for ship modelling: i first finished my 1/35 Revitzan battleship (well, the 2 first meters of it :-)), and then i will certainly be abble to finish before the end of the year my 1890 russian PT Boat whose in progress pictures i showed already several times amongst those lines
my biggest technical acheivement was certainly to be abble to create from bits of plastic the special round shapes of ...well ships!

I'm working on it. I did do the conversion / backdate of the Lexington earlier this year, but I had an aftermarket kit to do that. Right now I'm doing a backdate of the 350 scale Yamato which has required I scratch build and make castings of some parts. I am well on my way to completing it, so I would go with that.

Greetings all,

Not sure on this one it's been a good year all around. Did my first conversion the M7, got my Shermans to look like real tanks (well I think so), but probably the biggest achievement is that I think my painting style has improved greatly coupled with a more disciplined approach to research, both of which have helped me improve all round.

Perhaps making small additions to the kits, smoke dischargers, boat hook and the like has been the most fun, stuff I wouldn't have attempted before but that to me makes all the difference.

When I get the 3 current boats crewed and kitted out I think that will be high on the list also, so far they seem to be turning out quite well.

If I can make a good Bedford Truck before Christmas I'll be delighted as that's the next challenge on the list.

It's been a good year so far, now if only I can improve my figure painting

:-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

My greatest achievement is still in the works. The fact that I have had a chance to build a model has been an achievement in itself.

I finished the Classic Airframes Walrus -- which has semi-relevance because it flew off warships as a spotter ....

Making the AMPS-EAST show and 2 New England Museums on that week end.

Modeling wise, just finishing a project or two.

Got to be finishing the 1/350 Tamiya Missouri for the Dreadnaught Campaign.

Now if I can just get re-motivated to get back into my entry for DDD2!

Have to agree with you there Tom. That Missouri was an incredible job. I'm going to attempt to add a lot more rigging then I have previously done to my Yamato project.

Does not punching out my dentist the next time I saw him after having dental surgery done count? :-) Oh wait this is for modeling related achievements. sorry.

Still being new enough to the hobby to be doing something new in each project my biggest achievements this year so far would probably be 1 of the 2 following models.

The 1/500(about)USS Hornet. Being my first large project and my first attempt at camo (which came out very well thanks top Kennys paint mask.)

And my (and I know. Its not a ship.) 1/35 M2 Bradley. My first attempt at 1/35 armor and trying some weather.

Of course theres also finally getting the WWII infantry Dio done that I started last year.

But if all goes as planed it will be the water for the base I’ll be doing for the sakura.

I have to admit that my achievment for this year would be several unfinished kits on the table. Seriously all year long i haven´t finished a thing

But I keep my hope up and hopefuly will finish something soon.
