Hi Frank!

Yessir, you must list your complete plan before the closing date, to adhere to the Rules of Engagement, and to be completely fair to every builder who will be participating...make yer plan, and stick to it, mates!

I made an edit and listed the fancy parts...one more question....Do we start building now or at the end of the enlistment period?

Sign me up for the contest! I'll be building the IHP 1/700 scale Wyoming, the last monitor class built by the US. I'll check back in from time to time like the rules state.

Aha, Mr. Smith, not a silly question at all, mate...Welcome to Model Shipwrights!

I'm not going to let the entire cat out of the bag YET, but, we have many fine prizes lined up for this one, my friend...from DML USA, BattleFleet Models, and MIG, just to name a few! The Skipper is working up an official listing, be patient, enlist, and start planning your entry! I promise you won't be dissapointed in ANY of the prizes, for sure!

Cheers,

You might be surprised, there is so much scale and subject wise that doesn't catch my interest and I won't build. Also there is so much in my stash already that if they're items I already have or won't build I'd rather not enter and let others more interested in them have one less competitor.

Ahoy mates,

Did some contemplating this weekend and made my decision.

I am going to enter SOTQ# 1 with a submarine. Picked a model that is recent
so that I will not have to go into superdetailing with scratchbuilt parts, just
what is available in kit form and PE. But I will modify the kit as describe below.

Revell 1:144 scale minelayer VII-D
Eduard PE for the mine layer.
Homemade decals will be added for the correct variant.
Drilling out of vents and flooding holes.
Cutting out of the minelaying section.

This will be a conversion from a VII-D to a VII-C variant and
the boat will be built up as Erich Topp's U-552.

The VII-D was essentially a VII-C with the addition of a 9.3 meter section
that made up the minelaying variant.

Cheers,
Joe

Sign me up too.
I will be building USS Tracer, a Guardian class radar picket AGR built on a Liberty ship hull, using a Skywave 1/700 Liberty ship and some Gold Medal Models PE radar antennas.

First will need to strip much of the cargo ship topsides clutter off, then build up the communications spaces and a bunch of masts.

Turns our there were sixteen of these ships, used in the late 1950s and all decommissioned by 1965, to supplement the Distant Early Warning (DEW) Line to watch for Soviet bombers heading for either of our coasts. There were four stations on each coast, and one of these ships kept that station for a thirty day watch.

There are a lot of photos of the ships on the internet (good news) and it seems that many of them were arranged differently (bad news) with the big radar forward or aft or in between, so you need to pick a subject and stick to it. Tracer will be it, just because her crew has put together the best website with the most photos, of alll the West Coast ships.

Though I normally mount a 1/700 ship on a sea base to fit inside a 1/24 car display case, for this one I am intending to use a much wider 7" x 11.5" base that will basically dwarf the ship to give a feel for the loneliness of the picket station.

That's the plan.

Ahoy mates!

I'll be building Dragon's Sturmboot with these figures.

I'm going to use the wounded soldier and buddy from the Italeri kit and the couching and kneeling figures from the Dragon kit.

I know this is a silly question, but I have to ask.

Considering this to be a contest, will we still be able to exchange tips, ideas and info with each other?

See, told you it was silly.

Actually, not silly at all, ma' cajun friend...
Each participant is required to start and maintain their own build thread, and by all means, this will be the spot for tip exchanging, ideas and info...

Gunny,

another silly question;

Where do we start the thread and if we have more than one entry do we have a thread for each entry?

Gunny,

It ask's for a group affiliation when I go to start a topic (for my build), do we go with no group affiliation or is there going to be a SOTQ group made?

p.s. sorry with the nit picky questions.

No group affilliation, and a title like "Wildspears SOTQ entry #1" is good enough for me. . .

I'm going to have a bash at this:

I'll build The Revell PT117 with the WEM PE set, no scratch building.

I'm ordering it as we speak
