Now all the other forums have had or are in the process of creating campigns. Why havent the ship guys done this?? i dont normally build ships but i would for the sake of a campaign, if it wasnt to complex. Any feedback or ideas???

Cheers,
Paul

I guess for that, we'd need some more ship builders here on-site. :-)

If a campaign were to take place, I've got a 1/350th USS Arizona waiting to be built. :-) (along with 38 other model kits... )

With all of the group builds and campaigns taking place, it's getting hard to keep track. Rules change multiple times before they're official.
That's why I'd like to see a simple campaign! For example:
Warship campaign...
-You may build any warship: destroyer-class or larger
----Full hull or waterline kits make no difference
-The warship may come from any time period between World War 1 - present day
-No aftermarket details
-You'll get approxiamtely 50 days of build time
---the deadline will be extended by 10 days if 60% of the participants aren't finished by day 49 of the build.
-No prizes, but shiny campaign ribbons will be awarded.

If I was in charge, that's how / would do it... stepping off of the flattened soapbox now. #:-)

that would be perfect yodaman.. I have only ever made one ship, but i would be more then happy to tryy again if a few people would want to do a group build, or whatever you want to call it.

I only have two 1:700scale destroyer escorts - but - I'd join it too if they fit into the Campaign!

Sounds interesting enough, but with all of the different stuff starting up is there time for it before summer???? I would also join in, just to have done a boat for once!!!

If anybody steps up to lead this one, they'll need to inform Jim so he can do his stuff with the Triumvir...

I just threw those guidelines together for an example.
Maybe a better way to go about it is by actual ship size? (i.e. ship length must be greater than X feet)

I think that you could limit the scale and era and that would make the rules simple and easy to compare each others builds. something like only 1/700 or 1/350 scale (both are reasonably priced and abundant). and limit the era from 1900-2003 (anyone can find something that falls into that 103 years). and last is that it must be a ship of war. Sweet and simple.

In my opinion if it floats and shoots then why not.

Hee hee... good response!

From Dictionary.com:
war·ship (wôrshp)
n.
A combat ship. Also called man-of-war.

So far, the rules would be as follows:

Quoted Text

*You may build any warship kit in between 1/700 or 1/350 scale
----Full hull or waterline kits make no difference
-The warship may be of any type in the time period of 1901 to present day
-No aftermarket details
-You'll get approxiamtely 50 days of build time
---the deadline will be extended by 10 days if 60% of the participants aren't finished by day 49 of the build.
-No prizes, but shiny campaign ribbons will be awarded.

*I don't think this is official yet.
..then again, I don't think anything is official yet.

Anyone have suggestions/complaints/comments?

I've got a 1/350 Missouri I am getting ready to kick off if that fits the plans. If so I am in, but it will be my first campagn, so I am a little wet behind the ears on these. If no aftermarket pieces would be allowed I could add a 1/350 Uss new jersey to the mix then.

Although I suck at ships, and I only have 2 kits here(1/350 Early Ticonderoga class Aegis Cruiser, by Dragon, and a 1/260? Chinese Missle Frigate Huainan by Zhengfu), but I would be willing to give it a go....mind you I am getting mixed up in the modern armor one as well...so I guess it would depend on timing.

But for the most part....I am in!!!!

:-) Ilove the idea, how about the Trumpeter 1/350 USS Wasp? A bit pricy but a nice kit!

Ok, we seem to have a significant number of people who want to join in! :-)

There's only a few things left to do:

Quoted Text

-The plan is to have 50 days of build time - with a deadline extention IF NEEDED
If there are any comments or concerns about this, post them here.
-When is the build going to start?
-Who is the leader of the build? BlueBear is a moderator in these forms... I don't know if he's seen this thread yet, so I'll send him a PM

Last night I had an inspiration for a 'campaign poster' for this build. (an image Jim would put on the campaign page) I'll work on getting that done tonight.

Any other comments?

I'ld play. Got a 350 Arizona only thing is I've got a photo-etch set and I think it makes all the difference btwn gorgeous and plain jane. I built a Yamato without one and went back later and added what I could. Built the Might Mo with one as I built and would never consider not doing that again. Let me know what you come up with in rules.

Ok, I guess I'll lead this thing. :-) (hoo boy, now the pressure's on. Not only do i get to lead this thing, I have to finish an entry! )

Does anyone have a clever suggestion for the official name of the campaign?
"ArmoramA Warship Campaign No. 1", while descriptive could use a bit more verbal flash.

Blaster - I think I will keep the campaign OOB with the exception of people who already own a PE or aftermarket set for their ship may use it. (now I don't want to see everyone else run out and buying AM sets because of this... ) I'm building my first ship OOB, and you can too.

Start date - since there have been no complaints about the 50 day build time, we'll go ahead and keep that.
Also, since my knowledge of naval history is limited, I can't think of any historical events to tie the start of the campaign to. So...
...For a plain ol' start date I've chosen March 24th.
That will give me some time to submit the campaign data to Jim, and post some messages about the campaign on other message boards.

If this is not a good start date, let me know.

All right men, move out and swab the decks! (hee hee... :-) )

Certainly! :-)

Since I haven't seen you around yet, let me officially say "Welcome aboard!"

Most of the details for the build have been figured out, I'm just waiting for feedback on the start date. By the middle of next week, all the information for this build should be in the 'campaigns' section of the site.

March 24th sounds good to me to lay the keels down and start the build. Since the project is a ship build. Maybe somehow we could have a christening ceramony on the start date to kick this thing off. I know that when building a ship of the line they always made a big deal when the keel was laid. Can't really think of a snappy phrase, but I do remember hearing somewhere when the Battle of Midway began. That if the Japenese broke through the rendevous point for the Navy to meet and scoot to the West Coast was called "Point Hope". Maybe someone can come up with some snappier, but right now that's all that comes to mind.

Thanks for the exception Yoda man. I bought the PE set when I bought the kit a year and a half ago. Not looking for a competition just a fun event to participate in. Besides, my ships are good, but not competition class.
