Ahoy Shipmates! CyberHobby has announced the release of a rather unique 1/700 PLAN destroyer in their well received "Orange Box" series!

These particular destroyers were designed on two unfinished Russian hulls, which should widen their appeal to a larger audience. Only one kit is included in this box, but the builder has the option of replicating either of the two destroyers built in this class.
1/700 PLA (People's Liberation Army) Navy "Fuzhou", Sovremenny Class Missile Destroyer

Orange Box is again showing its true colors with the release of a 1/700 scale ship model. The subject is a Project 956 Sovremenny-class missile destroyer. Although it is a Russian-built ship, this Cyber-Hobby kit depicts it in Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) service. In 1996 China decided to acquire two unfinished Russian Navy vessels. The Hangzhou (hull number 136) was delivered in 1999, and the second destroyer - Fuzhou (137) - arrived in 2000. It is precisely these destroyers that are represented in this Orange Box release. These destroyers in service with the PLAN East Sea Fleet are designed mainly for surface strike missions.
The Orange Box kit is precisely made to 1/700 scale. Although the kit title specifically names Fuzhou, both vessels in this class can be built, as decals are provided for both the Hangzhou and Fuzhou. Details are accurately portrayed, and the kit makes widespread use of high-tech slide molds. All in all, this is another welcome kit from Orange Box, and it helps modelers represent the growing might of the PLAN. What’s also welcome is the modest Orange Box price of this 1/700 ship kit!
Available Dragon USA September 2012.
