A kit of a WWII US Navy LSM (Landing Ship Medium) is now being offered by Revell of Germany. These ships were used from mid 1944 for amphibious landing operations in the Pacific against Imperial Japan held territories.
More than 500 of these vessels were built and had the loading capacity of about 1 mechanized platoon. Some LSMs served in the Korean and Vietnam wars.

The LSMs went through various modifications (such as the rocket barrage launching LSM(R)s) and the Revell kit represents an early standard version.

The kit (No. 05123) has the following features:

- From a new molding
- 428 parts
- Two-piece hull
- Detailed propulsion system
- Movable rudder
- Detailed transport deck
- Movable front hatches and ramp
- 6 authentic 20mm Oerlikon cannons
- 6 life-rafts
- 3 M4 Sherman Main Battle Tanks
- 3 M8 Greyhound Scout Cars
- 3 CCKW 353 Trucks
- Display stand

Camouflage instructions and decal sets for four ships:

- Landing Ship Medium USS LSM-14, Pacific, 1944
- Landing Ship Medium USS LSM-133, Pacific, 1944
- Landing Ship Medium USS LSM-201, Pacific, 1945
- Landing Ship Medium USS LSM-210, Pacific, 1945

The assembled ship is 443 mm in length (17+ inches).

The suggested retail price is $52.95 but online retailers such as Tower Hobbies have it listed for $42.95 plus shipping and as a pre-order as not everyone seems to have it in stock yet.

The more I look at this kit the more excited I get about it. It's makes a good representative of the Pacific Campaign and it's Island hopping operations. I can't wait to see some show up at some scale modeling shows, especially as diorama centerpieces. This is a very nice site that gives a lot of background on the LSM. LINK There was a surving LSM in it's original WWII configuration (USS LSM-45) that was planned to be used as a Marines museaum piece but ended up being scrapped earlier this year because of lack of funding to restore it unfortunately.

This looks like a great release and something I would love to get. I do hope other vehicles become available. M4A2 or A3 would better project the late war PTO, but just to have this available is a huge bonus.

I'm expecting a plethora (yes, a plethora!) of aftermarket products to come out for this kit. From conversion sets to make other versions of LSMs to different vehicles and accessories to be used as transported cargo. And who will be first to offer PE?!
