This kit was released earlier this spring but I wanted to make mention of it here. A Cold War midget submarine from the Soviet Union, the Project 907 was an SDV -Swimmer Delivery Vehicle in US designation, SMPL - Sverkhmalaya Podvodnavy Lodka (Super Small Submarines) in Russian. It was developed in the late 60's-early 70's.
In 1966, the Soviet Union had begun work on the creation on a series of midget submarines know as "Triton". In 1970 the 2 man design received the designation 907. In 1972-1973 the "Triton-1M" passed its tests and mass production at the Novo-Admiralty Shipyard began. In total, 32 units were built. "Triton-1M" is a "wet" type submarine with two divers with a breathing apparatus in a water-permeable cabin. The craft had a speed of 6 knots submerged and a cruising range of 35 miles. It had a maximum diving depth of 40 meters with typical work defined at 32 meters. It is equipped with a magnetic compass, radio and MAR-3 sonar. Delivery of the midget submarine to operation sites could be carried out by various surface ships and larger submarines. Operations with vehicles such as the "Triton-1M" was carried out in the navy of the USSR until the end of the 1980s.

One unit is mounted on display on Russkiy Island, Vladivostok.

This kit (No. 35-014) is available at Hobby Terra for $26.95 (US) plus shipping as well at other retail sites that are dealers for Micro-Mir products.
