The USS Lake Erie (CG-70), a Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser, entered service on 24 July 1993. Dragon has released a 1/700 Ticonderoga class model in the past but this kit has been updated to reflect more recent additions to the class in service.
With a standard displacement of 9,800 tonnes and a length of 173m, the cruiser is armed with 122 missiles (including the likes of the SM-2MR, SM-2ER, SM-3, ESSM and Tomahawk), eight Harpoon anti-ship missiles, two Mk 45 5-inch guns, two 25mm Mk 38 guns and two Phalanx CIWS. She has served as test ship for missile exoatmospheric intercept flights. Perhaps USS Lake Erie is best known for her successful shoot down of a failed US satellite in February 2008 with a modified SM-3 missile.

This new kit (DRA 7142) is offered with both a full hull and a waterline hull to and features new 127mm main guns of L/64 caliber. Photo-etched parts are included and the kit is listed for an August 2015 release. Dragon USA Online lists the kit for $29.99 (US) plus shipping.

An updated sprue or two, with the same old kit? The story doesn't include the phrase "all new-tooled".

No it does not. They did not describe the kit that way. Usually if a manufacturer introduces a kit from new tooling they state that as a feature.

Dragon's new releases are almost always a rehash of a previous kit with a few new parts, new tooling essentially don't exist for them outside of BL, Disney and Detective right now.

Yeah...they're putting more effort into comic book characters and bobble-heads. Dragon's turning into a toy company! Although their recent Challenger release, even though a Black Label, is a decent effort.
JUL 12, 2015 - 07:11 PM
You mean Conqueror, right? The only Challenger Dragon ever produced was a 1/72 scale version from before they introduced BL.
JUL 12, 2015 - 08:57 PM
My bad! You're right! Seems to be their least objectionable "all new-tooled" kit in a long time!
