Hasegawa has announced the September 2015 release of a 1/450 scale Japanese aircraft carrier Shinano.

It is unclear whether this is a new tool or a re-release of Hasegawa’s ancient 1/450 scale Shinano from the 1970s. The computer generated graphic images suggest that it may be a new tool, but it is billed as part of their “Z (Big Ship)” series which includes the 1/450 USS Missouri, IJN Yamato, IJN Musashi, and HMS Vanguard – all of which were part of the old series. I suspect that this one is that same old Shinano in a new box.

That said, these kits weren’t too bad. And of the series, the Shinano was one of the better ones, second only to the 1/450 Akagi in quality. It isn’t state of the art, but if you are looking for a bigger scale ship kit at an affordable price, this one just might fill the bill.
