Vessel History:

"The USS Belleau Wood (CVL-24) was launched on 6 December 1942. It was a U.S. Navy Independence Class aircraft carrier, and it operated in the Pacific theater during WWII. It supported battles such as those at Tarawa, Iwo Jima and the Gilbert Islands, and its complement of aircraft made many raids against Japanese positions. In one battle it shot down a kamikaze plane, which subsequently landed on its flight deck and detonated stored ammunition. The resulting fire killing 92 crewmen. The USS Belleau Wood was later present at the surrender of Japanese forces in 1945, and the carrier was inactivated shortly after the war."

This should be very welcome. Sounds like a very nice kit of an important class of ships. One side note to DML. You're halfway there. You've got the hull of a Cleveland class light CRUISER, why not go all the way and finish the job? Then of course you can also scale it up to 1/350.

That's perfect, Ken. . .Hmmm, looks like when we get this kit, we'll just HAVE to order a fine set of Gators Paint Mask in this scheme to complement the build, eh? ~Gunny

Why yes. I think a GPM mask would finish off the Dragon kit just fine. Kenny

Are ytou going to take the hull curvature into account when you lay out the pattern?
JAN 13, 2007 - 09:52 AM
Yes, I'll extend the camouflage at the stern to compensate for the curve. Kenny

I'm more concerned about the bow, actually. While the stern does have a compound curve to it the bow is more pronounced. I read a review of your 1/700th CV-10 Yorktown mask and the photos there look to me like there's no adjustment in the patterns provided for bow flare, etc. If that's the case these masks would distort on the bow and stern and give an incorrect pattern. I'd be happy to be wrong however.

Updated images added, mates! Enjoy, ~Gunny

Thanks for the heads up Tracy. I've used the masks on a 1/350 scale destroyer with no distortion. I'll be using them on my 1/700 USS Hornet (Essex class). I'll make sure to check that out.
