Both the Kako and Kinugasa were built in the mid 1920's and both were sunk in 1942 in the waters off Guadalcanal. Hasegawa plans to release both full hull kits of these ships this March (April for outside of Japan).
The Kako (kit no 43168) was a Furutaka class heavy cruiser that saw action at the Battle of the Coral Sea and the Battle of Savo Island. It was at Savo that torpedos from the old US Navy submarine, S-44, sank her.
The Kinugasa (kit no 43169) was an Aoba class heavy cruiser that also saw action at Coral Sea and Savo as well as the Battle of Cape Esperance and the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal. Avengers and Dauntlesses from USS Enterprise as well as Marine Avengers from Guadalcanal pounded Kinugusa, sending her to the bottom.
Not a lot of details are available for these kits yet. Hasegawa had done earlier water line kits of these ships so we'll update on these new kits as the information becomes available.
Hobby Link Japan has both kits on pre-order for a March release for ¥3,840 ($33.34 USD, €29.56) plus shipping.
And as luck would have it, you could crew your cruisers with these new sailors and officers from Shelf Oddity.
