Considered by some maritime historians as the first 'true' submarine in that its performance was better when submerged than on the surface, the Type XXI u-boat is available in a new 1/72 kit by RC Subs. As usual with RC Subs previous offerings, it abounds with PE.
The Type XXI was the epitome of submarine design during the Second World War. Though it had a short service life and never engaged allied vessels, its hydrodynamic design would influence the first generation of nuclear powered submarines. Optimized for undersea performance, it's hull was smooth without the Type VII and Type IX's saddle tanks, deck guns or tower anti-aircraft guns. It is one the more popular 'what if' scenarios if such a weapon was available to Germany earlier in the war.

For this kit, the hull and the tower are molded from thermoplastic. The hull is 2 mm thick and made from the vacforming. The kit also contains 3 etched sets. deck, details of the hull, the details of the tower and plastic parts for the dive planes, rudders and stern planes. The length of the hull for the completed kit is 106.6 cm (42").

PRICE: 165.00 € ($178.00)

As of this posting, their are 3 kits available and can be ordered from the RC Subs webstore.

I have to say, the underwater shots of this kit dome up for RC control look amazing.
