Previewed and announced at this years Toy fair in Nuremberg, this latest submarine kit release from Alanger Models looks to be a welcome addition to the Russian based company's growing line of highly interesting nautical kit offerings.
"SSBN Delta IV Class Russian Submarine, K-407 'Novomoskovsk' "
Kit # 040002
Scale-1/350
Price-TBA
"The Delta IV submarines are strategic nuclear missile submarines, designed to carry out strikes on military and industrial installations and naval bases. Seven were built from 1985 to 1992, with five still in service in the Northern Fleet of Russia today. The last vessel built was the Novomoskovsk.
The operational diving depth of the submarine is 320 m with a maximum depth of 400 m. The propulsion system provides a run speed of 24 knots surfaced and 24 knots submerged. The submarine carries supplies for an endurance of 80 days. The surface of the submarine has an acoustic coating to reduce the acoustic signature.
The Delta IV is nuclear-powered with two VM-4 pressure water reactors rated at 180 MW. There are two turbines, type GT3A-365 rated at 27.5 MW. The propulsion system drives two shafts with seven-bladed fixed-pitch propellers."
Limited supplies of this kit were available from Pacific Front Hobbies here in the U.S., but are currently sold out. Availability will be updated when notified.
