much better, that works. i'll have to look into those. the price is pretty good as long as the quality is there.

Thanks,
Bill

Hey guys! it's been a while since i've posted anything on my pt boat so i'm here with a few updated pics. it's going slow but at least it's going. i added a little detail to the day house and chart room, again nothing super detailed, just a little eye candy. i've also paintedl some of the weapons. i do also have a question about them. as you can see i've painted the .50 cals a sort of gun metal. i've also painted the carriage that they sit in the same color, is this correct? i guess the rest of the mount is the color of the boat is that correct?

i'm going to go back and tone down the silver on the .50's, i usually make a blueish/steel color that i do somewhat of a glazing with. sometimes it comes out pretty convincing, hopefully it will this time as well.

anyway, comments, critiques and suggestions as always are welcome.

Looks great Bill, I really do like your work. The pin-ups are a nice touch and your painting technigue to simulate wood is very convincing.

Those guns look GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And, I LIKE those pin-up Vargas Girls posters, but will you see those when it's done?

The radar on the desk looks convincing too. But, what do I know? I'll probably be told it's all wrong ...

BUT you're doing a great job. Keep at it.

Hey, ...

Ya know something guys?

I have just noticed something...

The 'body' of the Italieri Mk. X mount for the 20mm; it kind of looks a little too tall and thin ...

Maybe it's just me, but that's what it looks like to me.

Thanks for kind words. it means a lot coming from the P.T. dude of the house. as far as the Vargas girls, they will be visable IF you know to look for them. the hatch on top of the day room as well as the hatch at the back will be open so there should be enough light and the side windows are actually large enough to see through. if you tell someone there are pin up girls inside, they will definately take the time to look for them, thus seeing the trouble taken to detail the interior. besides, i know they're there..

the radar is really pretty crude as far as detail as it will be much harder to see, so i didn't worry about getting it too close. there are no switches or knobs and the color i think is really supposed to be grey, but black shows up better.

That's a wonderful job Billy. I love the work with the .50s and 20mm. The posters are a nice touch also.

is it maybe because the ammo clip isn't mounted on the gun? i think i see what you mean, but i'm not sure if it's just an illusion since the gun looks so much smaller without the clip.

anyway, i don't think i'm going to sweat it as i'm sure my build will be far from accurate. i think my colors are going to be off since i don't have the proper greens and am getting impatient waiting to find them.

so about the .50s, am i right in assuming everything that i've left unpainted would be painted the color of the boat?

thanks again guys,
Bill

ok guys, i have another question. (moans from the audience are heard)

are the windows in the day room able to be opened or removed? i know they have black-out screens they can open and close, but what about the glass? i'd really like to leave the openings with no glass, but if that's totally wrong, i won't. what say ye?

thanks,
Bill

Here are the correct colors. You can get WEM Colourcoats from Battlefleet Models.

Deck Deck Green 20G, WEMUS16
Camo 1 - #2 Green , WEMUS23
Camo 2 - #3 Green, WEMUS24
Camo 3 - Flat Black, WEMBlack
Undersides - Copperoid or USN Anti-Fouling Red, WEMUS14

Sorry, Can't help with the windows.

Their Norfolk 65-A Anti-fouling Red is a good substitute for the Copperoyd color.

Hey, i see that the WEM paints are enamels, do they make an acrylic version of them? i use to not care about that kind of thing, but with the young one in the house and a new on the way, i'd rather use waterbased paints now.

Thanks,
Bull

No they don't Billy. Check with Free Time Hobby or Battlefleet and see if they have the MM Acryl Marine colors in stock. Those are pretty spot on.

Hey all. Believe it or not, i have actually made some progress on this build and i'll try to post some updated pics soon. i do have another newbie question. i did a search and can't find this for some strange reason. what color should the life vest and helmets be for a PT boat crew? it looks like a blueish grey but i can't find a definate color or at least a closest to this answer. i'd prefer to stick with MM Acryl paints so whatever would be the closest match.

thanks in advance for any and all help.

?

Maybe i buried the question in all my jumbled writing.

anyone have a suggestion for the color of the helmets and life vest of a PT Boat crew?

thank,
Bill

Try MM #5-S Sea Blue. That should get you close enough.

thanks Kenny! i'll look for that.

i've decided to not do a camo scheme on this build but i still need to get with you on some masks for the numbers and stars and bars i.d. markings. i'm not really following a particular boat, just a general PT boat so i have a little freedom to make stuff up.

Thanks,
Bill

OK ... What do you need to know about the numbers and STAR-AND-BARS?

hey Garth.

what i meant was i need to get with Kenny and see about getting hooked up with some gator masks for the hull numbers and the identification markings (the stars-and-bars) painted on the deck and top of the day room. i'm not going to try to build a particular boat, i just want to do one that is kind of in between a 109 type and the newer one that comes box stock. the colors i'm using probably aren't totally accurate (MM Dark Green and Med Green weathered with O.D. some) and i don't feel like trying a camo schemed boat. so this is just a generic PT Boat. maybe the next one i'll do some more digging and find one boat i want to do.

thanks for all of you guys help, i'll try to get some pics up soon.

Sounds like a plan.
