Hi Simon,

Great progress besides all your other projects!

The depthcharge look really good. I had to steal them from USS England. The kit parts are really unusable..
When you google HMCS Arrowhead you can see a colored pic with very irregular sandbags hanging in fromt of the bridge.
Is the bandstand sandbagged? I left mine in plastic, because i thought it was steel.

Hi Tom,

You are correct

The bandstand was steel, and generally not fitted with splinter padding, however I have found a few pics of Flowers with it fitted, non unfortunately of the Zinnia. However in my defence, she could have had it, but no photo's exist and also it was the easiest solution to the low bulkhead on the bandstand.

Hi Simon

Don't worry, that wasn't a complaint at all! i am sure I will do a couple more and always want to learn more. Your solution is an educated guess based on extensive research
Do you have a pic of Zinnia (except the box-art)? Wasn't able to find one.

Thanks Julian,

It is quite a neat little kit, I am pleased with the build so far. It does need the etch though, some parts are a touch on the crude side (depth charge rails for instance).

Carley floats, the moulded centres are being chain drilled.

Cut out and being cleaned up.

Etched webbing added.

two floats added, I think I will add another two on top, that looks right according to the pics of the early flowers, also the funnel stays have been painted, and the gally funnel added.

The boats have had their etched thwarts fitted and sat in their cradles, also the mooring bits and fairleads (Still light grey in this pic) and the 4" gun deck in place.

more soon.

A beautiful little ship Simon, I read in the latest Tamiya model mag that Mirage will be releasing the Pennywort in 1/350th scale so that will be the corvette I will be going for, now just have to wait patiently for the Trumpie HMS Roberts and Airfix's 1/24 Typhoon

Hi Kev,

Thanks for looking in.

Hi Julian,

Pennywort will be a nice choice, definitely looking forward to the 1/24th Typhoon, saw the test shots at Telford, already built the WEM Roberts, but the Russian PreDread from Trumpy is a must.

A bit more progress yesterday, was going down with some form of the dreaded lurgy so not as much progress as I would have liked.

Removed the davits from the sprue, 4 are required, but six are provided, all held on by 3 very sturdy attachment points that are tricky to get a razor saw at, 4 had already broken between the attachment point nearest the top and the next one down, anyway 4 removed, three of which had to be repaired.

meantime the I also failed to get the 2pdr off in one piece. However I did have some left over master brass 2pdr Barrels, so one of those made a superior replacement.

The ready use racks were somewhat of a pain to bend to shape, and had a nasty tendency to go ballistic, so far 4 have been added each side of the steps.

More soon.

Hi Simon

coming together nicely.
This little mode has so many small features which can be improved and varied, really love it. If I could only get 1 or 2 more here.

2pdr painted and fitted.

Splinter padding round the 4" platform finished and painted, f'c's'le fitting under way, still needs ventilators and a few other bits and pieces.

Boat davits painted and fitted.

More work on small stuff on the sprue, cleaning up and painting going on.

More soon.

Onward,

Having been through all my spare etch I could not find anything that would fit as boat falls, so it was a case of making my own.

Size measured lengths of brass rod set up and copper fitted diagonally between then & held in place with cyno.

Before adding fo'c'sle vents etc the etched anchor cables from the wem set went on.

Whilst the glue was drying on that, seemed a good time to fit the after superstructure railings.

Still need to fit in with the camo, along the the upper rafts

Bow fittings on, the bulwark pieces needed fettling so the sat snug as they were part on the planked, part on the baste deck, should have made cut outs in the wood deck for them, but this short cut will look ok once painted in.

The falls all ready fro trimming and painting.

The falls trimmed and painted, ready for chopping of the rods.

Cut off, and fitted in place, just the rest of the rigging to fit now.

Nice work Simon, amazingly cluttered decks these little boats had. The boats falls are magic

Thanks Joe,

It is a great little kit, enjoying it a lot.

Thanks Julian,

Felt the davits would have looked bare without them, she is nicely busy, I do like that in a ship. Am tempted by some diorama ideas, either waterlined with a U Boat on the surface, or a transparent box sort of thing with a depth charge attack going on, but we will see.

Simon,
Now that sounds like a great idea!... looking forward to
seeing something like that.

You have some good options as there are many stories of
Corvette/U boat encounters....ramming, depth charge attacks
etc.

I have considered doing one myself but for now I am just
mounting them on bases.

Cheers,
Joe

Hi Joe,

it is going to tricky to get right, but that is pat of the challenge.

Ramming was the original thought, but the transparent box would be really effective... if I could pull it off.

need to do a lot of research, but that is part of the fun of this hobby.

watch this space... in a "little" while.
