Modeling the Capsized U.S.S. Oklahoma!

After this had set overnight, I cut some Tamiya Tape into strips and added them to the model in a checkerboard pattern. The edge of the tape would allow the build up from the first two coats of paint to become weld lines later. I painted the hull Polly S Red Brown. This is the only reddish color I had in my desk that I thought approximated hull red. I removed the tapes the next morning (geez this is too early) and added Gunze Blue (H5) mixed with Future to the water. This made the top of the water look bluish and allowed the greens of the murky water below to show through.

I added the final coats of paint to the hull and added the cleaned up propellers shafts and screws. The screws were painted Model Master Bronze and the shafts Red brown. Weathering was added to the hull in the form of a wash of burnt umber oil paint. Some black pastel was added where the oil fires from the attack stained the hull. I also went in and added some rescue holes to the top of the hull.
