OK, here is my question.
What is the average airspeed of an unladden swallow?
Oppppssss Sorry, wrong topic.
Seriously, here it is.
HMS victory is still a commissioned war ship in the British Navy. Which First Sea Lord at first ordered it destruction, and then rescinded this order after his wife told him to?

Take my shot at it...UK, Great Britain, Royal Navy..."Commander H.V.N. Goodhart,Royal Navy, a test pilot and engineer, invented it (the first mirror landing system) and the first installation was made on HMS Indomitable in 1953. Naval Aviation took a giant leap ahead with it, as it also did with two other British inventions, the angled deck and the steam catapult---"

"Goodhart's experiment was first made with the handbag mirror and lipstick of his secretary, with which he drew a horizontal line on the mirror placed upright on his desk at a slight angle--3 degrees. He then aligned the reflection of the lipstick tip with the marked line as he moved towards the mirror--whereupon the chin came to rest on the tabletop.
The system has been successfully used ever since in real carriers, though no flightsim has so far managed to recreate it well.
It has been variously reported that he had to buy a new lipstick and mirror for Veronica Hotblood, his pretty secretary, from Christian Dor in Paris, in return for her favour, though that story has yet to be confirmed...."
