Gentlemen –

I am glad to announce that after a half-a-year of non-modelling time I am back at the bench – and it sure feels good. I finished setting up my workshop 2 days ago. Here’s where I’ll be sitting:

Of cause, I’ll be getting back to the Leipzig, soon. However, to get that old flexibility back into the hands, I’ll be getting myself ready by doing a little project first before getting back to this one.
Meanwhile I am inviting you to follow my and the other guy's contribution of the “Divine Waterline” campaign at

See you soon,

Guido

Gentlemen!
Thank you for your kind words.
As you can see in the running and soon-to-be-started campaigns I have take up üroduction again. Now I have to admit that I am lousy in re-starting projects one they have been shelved. However, next to the participation in the campaigns, I will finish the Leizig some time soon. It'll certainly be ready at Lübeck, Nils!

Guido

Dear friends and visitors of this thread!
I was recently being pointed out by a friend, that - even though the project has been stalled for over 18 months (or so) that your continued visits make this thread the second most visited thread of the "Fleet Manoeuvres" ever, being second only to the "Military Small Crafts" campaign by a few hundred clicks.
I actually do feel that I should make good on my promise to finish this build, but as you know there are so many good models out there and all of you have so many brilliant new campaign ideas, that it is hard to go back.
Now, I do have enough project commitments right now to keep me busy for two year at least (1 major conversion, 1 scratch build for a group theme, 1 scratch build for the Ironclad campaign, and a resin kit development) however I do see your continued interest in this thread. I shall try to get may act together in push this subject back into focus the sooner possible.
Thank you for your continued support and interest!
Sincerely yours,
Guido

Gentlemen!
Thanks for looking in!

Unexpected good news pushed the motivation to new limits and the stalled Leipzig build went back onto the bench today.
The main turrets received a makeover as they were in a pretty bad shape after the move. I started to paint the tops of them, too. In due process of painting I will be getting back to the aft superstructure. Masking and paiting is up here, too.

Pics to follow...

Cheers,
Guido

Thanks, Dave!

Gentlemen,

In pursuit to finish the build until 5th or 6th of November I have restarted.

I have been busy painting. I can’t seem to be able to match the info of the schematics of the kit and the camo and photos of the real thing. That kink in the Baltic stripes along the funnel came out too pronounced seems to be in the dimension of the kit. I don’t quite see my repainting though… I’ll finish the build now and leave the camo faulty.
I hope you are not too disappointed about it.

Cheers,
Guido

Gentlemen,

ever since I gave up on the hope to finish the Leipzig in time for Telford I am progressing slowly but thoroughly. I have decided to take her with me as an ongoing project since we’ll have enough space on the table this time around.

Last of all major components to add to the deck is the foremast and bridge.

Dry fitting already gives a good idea about the final shape.

As you can see the bridge is still a massive block, but that’s about to change.

Cutting and sanding at the same is best done with a diamond disk. Mind the vacuum cleaner tube locked in the bench vice to take away dust in the making.
350th ladder cut to size are fitted as window frames. The verticals are already blackened, as this will help to pick out detail in later painting.

Now platform by platform is to be added, but not without adding some more detail such as the support grit from underneath.

Here comes the bas news: I had all the painting down and lots of the construction, but for some reason not a single one of these picture files could be opened, so I can’t show a step-by-step. I’ll take some pictures of the intermediate result and post them for you, but I am too tired to re-shoot today.
So, for today I am closing with a picture of my work enhancing the big searchlights. The will be sitting in rather exposed positions, so they demand some attention. See the raw kit part on the left.

That’s it for today.

Cheers,
Guido

All the best artists take a looooooooooong time Guido and don't care about deadlines. It's the subject that counts and the more time you spend the better this build becomes.

All the best,

Yeah, but a deadline can be a good kick in the butt, which is what usually helps me getting things done. Picking up the pace isn't quite easy, but then, I had a pretty good year output-wise ... so what!?

Good things take good time... don't they?
It took me almost 30 hours to get the bridge this far. There is still some more rigging to be done and all railings need canvas dodgers which in turn have to painted to conform the camo scheme.

...these close-ups really make some mistakes obvious, don't they?

Anyway, while I am progressing things are starting to look like a ship.

Now ht emajor assembly is finished and the million bits and bobs are to be added. I wonder how far I can come until I have to pack up for Telford.

Cheers,
Guido
