hey bruce! look in the "FSM PT boat" thread, some good waterline maps/info were posted to help mask/paint the PT boat. The Revell instructions are WRONG in that regard, as I found out! Luckily I had not laid out any paint yet...

hello James,
we have a lot of photo's showing the way the paint on the hull.and they show that the waterline as the same way the instruction are.so i am going to do it that way.i am probably wrong, but i do have the photo's for backup.
thanks for your info and help.
cheers,
Bruce

Thanks Kenny,

Got my kit in the mail the aother day and it looks good. I have to say that I have quickly become a fan of Hobby Boss. I have built a number of their little subs and that all have been very nice kits. If only they made an Ohio class SSBN.

Hi
Have just about finished the building of my Sub. Had to scratchbuild the ladder going up from the deck to the forward gun platform. Removed the main gun's as there are none of the sub in the film. The ladder nearly finished me off, got me fingers stuck with super glue got fed up with the tiny bits nearly threw it out.after about 3 hours it looks like this. resonably happy with the end result.

have since sprayed the sub with grey primer & looks ok. next stop mixing some pink.

hello Kenny,
my Pt-109 is mounted on the wood base and the hull/deck painted.slowly getting the other stuff painted and put on the deck.i replaced the prop shafts with brass wire,my first time doing that, and they look fairly good. i have to build the AT gun that was on the front deck.i got the White Ensign PE kit of the AT Gun.lots of little parts.after i build it,i am going to give it a cover coat, then paint it a olive green and mount it on some wood i got.it should look OK.
so,so far about 50% done.i need to take some Photo's of it and post them.hopefully this weekend.
cheers,
Bruce

Hey Kenny
My "Final Countdown" Nimitz is curently on hold as I finish the ColdWar tin cans GB. I also have to get pass the fact that the old monogram kit is very VERY old and lacks detail... trying to think of something "fun" I can do to tie it with the movie...

here are some pics:

sprues/box:

some work; I had to build up the attachment points and sand away a nasty raise mold line down the centerline

you can see the fit problems and lack of detail:

the base came out fine (I think), was playing around with making a "wood-like" base:

I will take this one up full time once I finish the Cold War tin can GB in a couple weeks

Finished this morning, I feel funny submitting a model this small but all of my models are 1/700. This is the best my camera could do.

Ahoy mates!

Two and a half weeks to go! Does anyone need an extension? Due to Hurricane Ike, I've had to scale down my Thunderfish to 1/144. I'm going to do the best I can to finish it by the due date, but I may need an extension.

Sound off with a sitrep, please.

Hi
Small update with my build. At the moment my Sub is hanging upside down in my shed so that the Hull can dry. I base painted it black, this has now been weathered with oils so that it has a varied black, grey bluish colour. Will be adding some rust marks once I've weathered the Top area. At the moment the Top deck & all structure are in the base pink colour. I'll see if I can get some pic's taken later.

hello all,
the 37mm AT gun is painted and ready to be put on the front deck.i have been looking at the movie(PT-109) and in some scenes it is tied on to 4x4 wood and in others it is on the deck.so i am not sure which way i am going to do it.if it is a pain to use the 4x4 i made,it will just go on the deck.
i just have a few more parts to put on and i should be done this week.
cheers,
Bruce
