I think I am going to finish up my campaign builds for the moment and get out a nice, complicated ship. Take a month or two to build her.

Nice and relaxing..

Just started the new project: 1/144 scale, Eduard PE, metal barrels. About 6 months of plain sailing I hope.....................................

Thank you very much Kevin, that is very kind of you
I think after all the battles I had to keep the PE from disintegrating I'll keep the lady for a while.
Cheers mate,

Thank you very much Warren, very nice of you to say ! As always everyone is his own worst critic and I was just rather amazed at the color difference between some of the superstructure decks, partly due to the flash but also partly due to a rather haphazard application of burnt sienna wash Didn't notice it before but a very big learning moment.
Cheers,
JUlian

I think that it would be more appropriate to have a lighter color wash for a ship at sea... IMHO anyway as the salt builds up in corners rather than dust and dirt. Although a Naval ship is normally kept in great shape as idle sailors are not a good idea as their thoughts start turning away from their duties..

Dark wash will accentuate things, maybe then a light dry brush?
I'll try this next build

congrats on completing this build Julian. Your ability to stick to one build all the way to the end is my envy. Must be quite impressive sitting on the shelf. I recently went to Japan and spent half a day at the Maritime Museum at Tokyo Bay. They had a 1/200 Haruna there, as well as a all metal Kongo, and the 1/100 Yamato. Pretty impressive stuff.

Thanks JIm, yes, glad I finished her. It does get a bit gritty near the end of the build and I still have to add a small army of Japanese 1/350th scale sailors.
In Steve Wipers book on the KOngo class there are some photo's of a 1/150th scale Haruna, beautiful work. I'd love to see the Tokyo bay museum.
cheers,
Julian

Hi Martin, thanks mate, very kind of you.
Hi Jim, yes, we mentioned this last year I think. I will be doing an article on the build. Always a good moment to look back at what went the way you wanted and what didn't.
cheers,
Julian

Yeah, I have to be a kill joy and bug everyone to do a feature. But this is a great project and it will be well used in the future for reference I am sure.

Thats clear Jim, no problem at all. It's also rather good to do a retrospective of a build. If I started the Haruna today I would do a lot in a different way and that goes with you to the next build
Cheers,
Julian
