HI Keith

Good thought, will experiment, on some scrap first, if it looks messy will leave as is.

Thanks Michael, also following your build with interest.

The crew figures came from the Fujumi IJN sets, "converted" into RAF Rescue launch crew with a paintbrush. They were given blue / grey trousers, light khaki duffle coats, blue / grey headgear flesh for the faces & brown seaboots & gloves.

The boat was then crewed. On the bridge, the helmsman at the wheel, the skipper in fwd port corner watching the approach, another officer by the compass binacle, and two lookouts. On the fordeck the two Oerlikons are manned, with a loader standing by, on the port side a crewman is ready with a heaving line and two men are clearing away the scrambling net. The twin oerlikon has a crew at the ready, but as their gun does not bear they are watching proceedings.

The base was given an overcoat of clear green / smoke, the airman & a couple of paddles added to the raft.

The boat has had the masts / davit and a few other sticky up pits added and now just needs rigging and attaching to the base. I will spray another coat over the wake. Might need one more layer of sea / wake but I will see what it looks like. I have just sat the boat in position to get a feel for the finished model

Simon looking good with her crew on board are you planning on adding to the water, with PVA glue or are you just painting the water.
Progress is slow with mine at the moment it,s a case of paint and mask and paint and mask with the deck and upper surface details, only thing to show so far is a mass of masking tape, should get the main part done this weekend and will post some progress shots then.

Hi Keith,

Thanks for your comments.

Just painting it, the foil gives gives a good enough wave effect. I think it will need a couple more layers to get the effext depth I am looking for and also tone the colour down a bit, interspersed with layers of white for the wake.

looking forward to seeing some more on yours

Getting close to completion. Another layer has gone on the wake, this time with a brush, and the boat hase been rigged, well just needs a trim.

Simon, outstanding work there, I don't know how you can work with such a small scale like that. Next photo you should throw a penny in so guys see how small that really is

Final stages:-

The boat is finished, and next to a penny for scale.

The final layer of wake has sprayed on and the boat dry fitted to make sure everything is done.

Looks ok so the boat is glued down, and final coat of clear is brushed over with clear. and finished!!!

WIll post a couple on the campaign gallery

Simon Fantastic look to that little model will you be trimming the edges of the foil on the base or do you paint the outer edge of your bases
Great work

Thanks Keith

The outer edges will get a trim, just to tidy it up. I had forgotten to do that in my excitement.

I have made a small water base for my build using some polystyrene packaging spare conti board and some thin strip wood for the sides the waves are made using decorators corking adhisive to give it a bit of a rough wheather feeling. I have still to add the acrilic gel to give the water a glossy sheen

I'm really enjoying the water that you guys are creating for your ships. Would love to set my Cat in a "water" base, but it's a little too big for that in 1/48

I hope to get started on my build soon, I already cut some of the major parts from the sprue and have test fit them together. I'm not happy about the raised panel lines, but it's not something that will really be noticed with the dark blue/black paint on it.

Hi, I just joined this forum and found that I have just missed this group build. I am converting 2 boats to radio control and they are in progress of building. One is an Airfix 1/72 Severn lifeboat and the other a Revel 1/200 ETV Waker.

Pardon me for posting some pictures here although I am not in the group build.

"sea trial" for the ETV Waker. I don't know how to make sea, so I put the boat in real water.

It must be with the holiday season but It does seem it is rather quiet round here. Some progress on the Arkona SAR ship most of the deck fittings are now in place and still to add rigging. The blue figures that you see are from the Revell 1/72 u-boat crew set will do some little tweaks on these to make the crew suit the ship.
On another note when i was checking the gallery there is only one photo in the finnished file that of Sal can you please use the photo files provided so that I can check on all crew taking part and have a record of who is finnished for Ribbon awards

Hello. Just enlisted and I"m very interested in this build. I have had plans for some time to build the USS Hilary P Jones on October 1941, when she rescued 11 survivors of the USS Ruben James. It seems.fitting to step up my plans and build this scene for this campaign. Unfortunately, I'm behind the power curve here. I have yet to purchase the model. I think I will go with Dragon's USS Benson 1940. I should have it in hand, and under way very soon.

Not much progress on my build, but I will get there eventually
