Well, I decided to join my first campaign here, or anywhere
I wanted to see about modifying my Dragon UH-1N Gunship to a Canadian Rescue Helo, like the ones I saw at Cold Lake Airbase during Maple Flag, but it would take me too long to do, so...
I just ordered the Skunkworks HH-60J Jayhawk (I recently watched The Guardian too), gonna be a OOTB build, and I will do my best here.
So once it gets in from Sprue Brothers, I will start building and posting.

Off to a good start Chandler keep us up to date with your build. A couple of choppers started so far but no progress reports for a while, thought we may have had one or two finnished before now

Nice kit, Chandler. Looking forward to see how it builds up.

Major disaster struck on my Walrus build. I messed up the engine construction and do not really see how I can save it.
However, I have a costal command Halifax. Would that qualify for this campaign? Obviously it cannot land on water and pick up people, but would still be a key link in coordinating and finding survivors etc. Would that qualify for this campaign?

Jesper That is an OK from me on that build as the name of the campaign suggests this is for Search and Rescue Craft, and I,am sure many of the coastal Command aircraft would have been on the look out for Downed pilots and would radio in positions for the rescue boats to pick them up. Please keep us posted with your build nice to see you along

I'm one of those who started a chopper but hasn't reported in a while! Apologies and you know how it is, taking a bite out of too many GBs at the same time. Enough excuses, on with the photos!
Here's where we last left the build...

During the week, I closed up the fuselage sides around that..

You probably can't see them but I also added collectives beside each of the front seats. And tonight I added the front screen and cockpit roof (if you've built this kit, they support each other) and the engines/rotor head assembly

I also added some lumps/bumps underneath the fuselage and what looks from refs to be a fuel dump line (you can just see the collective in this one)

The left window still needs further sanding to tidy it up and overall the kit needs some filler along the many gaps and seams. Hope to get primer on her this weekend!
Sorry it's been such slow progress but it's full steam ahead from here to the finish!
Thanks for reading and enjoy your modelling!

As much as I wanted to finish this campaign, life has kept me away from my modelling pursuits. I haven't even been able to start my Catalina and I don't want to do a rush job on it, so I have chosen to unenlist from this campaign. If SAR II comes up next year I will gladly enter the Catalina in that campaign.
Cheers and happy modelling!

Sorry to hear that Jeremy, know that feeling! Hope to see you back here soon.
Here's where I currently am with the USCG Dolphin. All masked and ready for a coat of primer. Also added the winch from sprue and spare parts. From some angles, it looks fine, from others it looks too big..must be my eyes!

One major problem I foresee is with the final colour - Revell's instructions would have you use "Fiery Red". But I have this colour in my set and no way is it right. Most people seem to say "International Orange" or "Chevy Red" for USCG but try finding those in acrylic in Europe...
Any suggestions much appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Dermot

I will post some pics tonight of my Jayhawk. The kit is proving to be very irritating, so many flaws and design issues. I have been sanding and filling like crazy
I have a few bottles of Model Master Acryl Coast Guard colors, the colors have since been discontinued and I have used them sparingly

It's paint time of this build and i tried a mix of Revell Fiery Red and Revell Orange (both aqua colour acrylics) to get that USCG look. Unfortunately it was a really poor finish and colour coverage so I sanded away the really bad parts to prepare for primer again...

Went for white primer this time around, as it seemed to make more sense.

And thanks to fellow modeller and club member Sean (callsign Vertigo) who directed me towards a local stockist of Vallejo colours - he also gave me some suggestions for a matching colour and I settled on "Vermillion" - I like it and thinks it's a good match. It looks redder in the pictures than in reality but maybe that's my eyes!

Masking up for the black engine exhaust area.

And where she rests tonight. I'm still planning on finishing this kit in time for this campaign and hope to get some decals on before Christmas.

Thanks for reading, happy modelling and hope Father Christmas is good to you and yours this year.
Best wishes,
Dermot

Hi Keith and a happy Christmas to you and yours! I'm aiming to be finished in time - decals hopefully go on tomorrow night and then just final bits to add.
As this is my first completed GB around these parts, where exactly do I post my photos?
Many thanks in advance.

Hi Dermot to get your photos in to gallery you need to go to your profile page then click on your photo gallery then look for the kitmaker home page then go to campaigns section and look through for this campaign finnished builds and add to that gallery. Sounds a lot but it is not to bad to do

Hey Guys
I am not going to have my HH-60 Jayhawk done in time.
The Skunkworks kit has a lot of fit issues and I have some serious issues with the from windscreen not fitting. I have a 2mm gap from top of windscreen to roof of fuselage
So much filling, and it's just taking so much of what little free time I have here.
Maybe I will be better off for the next Campaign I enlist into

Chandler sorry to here that, do you think even a small extension might help or will it just take to long. I was hopeing that we might get a few more to finnish in time, but with life there is always something else crops up to get in the way

I know what you mean and that's a pity Chandler - was looking forward to seeing the Jayhawk here, at least to keep my Dolphin company! Who knows, perhaps we will see it in the future?
Finally got finished my build last night and really happy with how it turned out (for my skill level). It's my first ever completion on the site and my last build of 2011 so memorable for two reasons. The kit is no way an accurate HH-65; more like a SA-365 in USCG markings. Will post some pics to the gallery and it's dedicated to all those brave people who serve in SAR whether at sea or in the air.

Thanks to Keith for leading this, to everyone who took part and hope 2012 brings all you wish for.
Best wishes,

Dermot one word Stunning great photos with the reflection. As for skill level rating 10 out of 10 and thank you to everyone who has took part in my first campaign. The only disappiontment for me with this GB is not more people took part to Hounor those who risk life and limb for the safety of others,we had quite a few names to start but only a few to finnish but as they say such is life
